Dusk to Dawn quilt is finished

Hi everyone,

I have a finished quilt to share.
My Dusk to Dawn quilt, designed by Stacey Lee O’Malley @slostudio
This pattern was published in issue 43 of the Love Patchwork & Quilting magazine. I have a digital copy.

I used glide thread for the first time for the quilting. I love it! My machine loved it. Even though this quilt is heavily quilted, it is still soft. The glide thread is so light and soft. I think it’s my new go to quilting thread.

I hope you like it.

I'm quilting again......

Today, I worked on a really old UFO.
I started assembling the blocks my sister and my Mom exchanged in May 2009.
You can read more about the exchange here.
I decided to put the blocks together in sections.
I didn't want to have a big quilt in my machine.
So, I'm doing it quilt-as-you-go.
Quilting each panel of blocks, then putting the panels together to make the quilt.
I have the first section done.
The pinwheel block in the center is made by my Mom.
The corner pinwheel blocks are made by the four girls.
I've added some 9 patch blocks that I made around the same time as the pinwheels.
I sashed the 9 patch blocks to make them fit.
So this is my first panel. Yeah!!
I'm glad to finally get these together.
It took me a long time to figure out what to do with them.
The blocks were not all the same size.
I had to figure out a way to put them together that worked.
I think this is the best option.

Shabby Roses Quilt is done!!!

Well, this quilt has been in the making for a while.

I started making the blocks in August 2009,
and finally finished it yesterday April 4th, 2012.

The blocks were designed by Jenny of Elephantz.
It was originally a free BOM.
It's no longer available for free, but you can purchase it on her website.

I changed the setting of the blocks.
I wanted a different look then the one Jenny had designed.

My quilt is 43 inches wide by 40 inches long.
All the blocks are hand embroidered and hand appliqued.
I used fusible web to applique my shapes.
The quilt was machine quilted by me.
I used my old Kenmore sewing machine to quilt it.
The binding is all done by machine.

I washed it yesterday and now it is so soft and crinkly.
Just the way I love it.
I put a sleeve on the back, so now it is ready to hang.

I'm keeping this one.
I've had a few requested or hints from a few people who wanted it.
But, this one is all mine.
I just love it!!!

I hope you like it too.

Since I have to work all weekend,
I will wish you all a very Happy Easter!!!

Shabby Roses quilt almost done!!!!

Hi everyone,

I know it's been a while since I blogged.
March was a rough month for me.
I was extremely busy.
Then, I started getting so tired, then just plain worn out!!
I didn't do a lot of sewing.
I was having a hard time sleeping and just didn't feel well at all.

But, it's a new month.
Yeah!!!
It should be better, since I have a week off coming after Easter.
I do work all of Easter weekend. :(

Today, I got some energy and finished quilting my Shabby Roses Quilt.
I've had this top done since July 2010.
It's about time I get this finished.
I just need to put the binding on and I'm done.
Here it is.

And a close up of the quilting.....

This pattern was a free block of the month provided by Jenny of Elephantz.
I just love it!!
I hope you like it too.

I finished my Picnic Schnibbles Quilt!!!

I finally got my Picnic Schnibbles quilt done.
I've had the top done since Nov. 30, 2009.
I can't believe it sat unfinished for so long.
It's a beautiful quilt.
I'm really happy with it.
Here it is.

And here is the back.

I machine quilted this quilt myself on my Kenmore sewing machine that is 30 years old.
The binding is also done by machine.
I stitched it on to the back first, then machine stitched it to the front.

I'm very happy with the results.
It really made my day to finally get this done.

I'm done the quilting!!!

Hi everyone,

I finally finished quilting my Carpenter's Star quilt today.
Here it is!

The quilting is not perfect, but it's as close to perfect as I could get it with the tools I had.
And, not hand quilting it. (I didn't have time for that.)

I'm very happy with it.
I love it, actually.
I would keep it, if it didn't have so much white in it.
LOL!!
It would never stay white at my house.

Now, I just have to put the binding on it.
Yeah! I'm almost done.

Woodland Bloom Quilt finished!!!

Hi everyone! I hope you all had a good day. It was a little crazy around here today. But one good thing happened. I finished my Woodland Bloom Quilt. Now my daughter has a homemade quilt on her bed that fits. This is a queen size quilt. It is the largest quilt I have ever completed on my own. I quilted it using my old Betty sewing machine that is over 25 years old. So I kept the quilting simple. It is backed with flannel from the same collection. So it is very soft. I really love the way it turned out. I hope you like it. I know my daughter is very excited to finally have it on her bed. She says it brightens up her room.
I also received two pattern that I ordered. I love these patterns. I hope to get a chance to make one of these soon. Here they are:

On another note, we have been out of hot water for the last three days. On Wednesday, we noticed that we didn't have any hot water. So we called to have a technician come and look at it. On Thursday, the technician came and told me that we had a carbon monoxide leak from our natural gas hot water tank and that the gases were not venting outside but into our basement. He put a code violation on our tank and left saying it could not be in use.

I was quite concerned about this and had to have a contractor come in and look at getting the venting issue fixed. Then he told me that it could not be fixed because the tank was not properly installed in the first place and that the venting issue could not be resolved if the tank stayed in the same location.

The tank is in a crawl space and we could not fit any other kind of tank in that location that used natural gas. So now we had to decide to go to an electric tank and find a new location to put it. I had to get an electrician in to set up the hook-ups and the gas people to come and disconnect the old tank. The plumbers couldn't come today. They will be here tomorrow and hopefully can do the plumbing for the new location and set up the new tank.

I had to take care of all of this because my husband had to work. He just started a new position and could not take the days off to get this done. So, I end up having to look after this....and I have no idea what the heck I'm doing. It was kind of stressful. I was even more worried that we had a carbon monoxide leak and that we didn't know about it. We have a carbon monoxide detector in the hall outside our bedrooms. But not in the basement. I am definitely installing one now.

So, that's what I have been up to. I hope you all have carbon monoxide detectors in your homes or apartments. It would just be a shame to have something bad happen that could have been prevented by just having a detector in your home. Our home is 36 yrs old and we have been living here for just over 2 yrs. God was watching over us, and gave us a sign that something was wrong. So we were fortunate to be able to fix this problem before something bad happened. That's all for today!

Almost done quilting my Woodland Bloom Quilt

Hi everyone! I hope you all had a nice day. They weather was gorgeous here today. I did spend quite a bit of time outside. But, I also decided to do some quilting on the Woodland Bloom quilt I have been making for my daughters bed. I kept putting it off because it was so big and I was really nervous to quilt it. Then my newer sewing machine broke down. But today I decided to just do it with my old machine and that I would keep the quilting simple. I am almost done.  I just have to quilt the borders. I just ran out of thread. I will buy some tomorrow than try to have it done in the next few days. This quilt is going to be an everyday quilt. I have enough flannel that I used for the back to make two matching pillow cases. I am also going to make a few decorative pillows to match. This quilt is a large queen size quilt. I am glad that I decided to do it today. My daughters been asking me when I was going to finish it. It is almost done. Yeah!!!

I wish all of you a Happy Easter!

Double hourglass quilt is done!

Hi everyone! I hope you all had a good day.
Sorry I haven't posted in a week.
I have been so busy with work, the kids and life.
I did get some sewing done in the last two days.
I finished the baby quilt for my MIL.
I really like the way it turned out.
I did have problems with my newer sewing machine.
I am going to have to bring it in to have it serviced.
Thankfully I have my old trustworthy machine to fall back on.
That machine, which I am going to name "Betty"
because she is made by White. (Get it!)
I'm not very good with jokes.
Old Betty has not been serviced in over 20 years and she is still going strong.
She is heavy duty and a bit banged up.
 But she always works.
Once I figured out how the tension worked on it,
I have never had a problem with it since.
I just wish I could do free motion quilting with it.
Hmmmm......I am going to have to look into that a bit more.
Well, here is my quilt. I used soft flannel for the back!
I think it is very cute!
I hope you like it!

Another little bag!!

I hope everyone had a good day. I did a lot of running around today. But this morning I sewed another little bag. I took a picture of the two bags together. Don`t they look cute!!!

When I did my 1 year anniversary giveaway, I drew two extra names. I did not know what I was going to give them. So I made these two little bags. I hope Deb and Lisa like them. They are really cute. I had a lot of fun making them. I put them in the mail today.

I wish everyone a wonderful evening.

My first finish of 2010!!!

I hope everyone had a great New Years day.
 I spent my day relaxing.
But this evening decided to finish quilting and
binding my Cindy Lou Who quilt.
I had quilted part of it the other day.
But only got the chance to finish it tonight.
The outer border is a bit wavy.
Ah well!!! It`s still cute. I`m glad it`s done.
I did not get to use it this Christmas.
But I will have it for next year.
Now I can check that one off my UFO list.
I hope you are all well.

I made a Star Quilt!!

It has been a very busy last couple of days. I have been working. I have been trying to get my Christmas gifts done. We celebrated Christmas today with my inlaws. I made a turkey dinner with all the trimmings. We are going away to Northern Ontario tomorrow to see my family. It is an 9 hour drive. I hope the weather is good.

I made a lap quilt for my mother-in-law. I used the same star block as the table runners. I did not  have much time, so I thought I would stick with something I was comfortable with. I used some Kansas Troubles and Buggy Barn fabrics. I really love this quilt. I did some simple quilting. I finished it at 10am this morning. My inlaws got to our house at 12:30pm. So I got it done just in time. I hope you like it. She loved it.

Well, I am going to be gone until the 29th. So I wish you all a wonderful Christmas.

I finally finished my Winter White Schnibbles quilt!!!

I'm done!! Yeah! Today, I finished my Winter White Schnibbles quilt. I'm so excited to be done. I spent the morning quilting it and then it took me the rest of the day to hand stitch the binding to the back. I just finished it a few minutes ago. I love the way this quilt turned out. It's not perfect, but still very pretty. I used fabric from my stash for this quilt. I usually buy fat quarters, and that's what I used. I even pieced the back with blocks cut from some of the fat quarters that I used for the front. I decided to make a simple nine patch block for the back. I think it's cute. I even pieced left over strips of fabric to make the binding. This quilt is being gifted so I took lots of pictures to remind me of it. I really like this pattern. I may have to make another one like this at some point. It was not the easiest, but I love the look of it.

On another note, last night I went to my local quilt guild meeting. I had so much fun. Some of the long time members of the quilt guild had their very own truck shows. Six members showed their quilts and shared their stories. It was so much fun. I had some good laughs. I think it was one of the most enjoyable nights out I had in a while. I'm really happy I was able to go this month. I hope you are all well!!

Happy Stitching!!!

My finished Jacob's Ladder quilt

I have my first finish for the month of February. It's great that I was able to finish a quilt. It was a big project. It took me 5 months to complete this quilt. That seems like a long time, but I was working on two other quilts at the same time, plus Christmas gifts, working, I could go on and on. I'm just glad it's done. My son will be very happy to finally have a quilt that I made on his bed. He's been excited for me to finish it. I hope you all like it. It won't win any competitions. But I think it's great. It's bright and cheerful. It's unique, since it's a scrappy quilt and it was a great pattern for a boys room. It will go well with the quilt I made for my oldest son, since they both have a diamond pattern in them and the colours are similar. The two boys share a room. It's done!!! Yeah!!!!!! Well, I hope you all have a great day.
Happy stitching!!
