Organizing my craft room.

Hi everyone,

I hope you are all well.
This past week, I started putting my craft room back together.
When my husband had his motorcycle accident last April,
all my craft stuff was removed from my room in order to make space for other furniture that had to be moved when my husband came home from the hospital.
Because he is getting better, we have returned a bunch of the medical equipment that he no longer needs. That freed up my craft room again. Yeah!!!
I brought in some new storage units for my craft supplies.
I wanted open storage, so that I could see what I have.

I got a cube storage unit similar to the Expedit unit from Ikea.
It has 16 cubes in it.
I have four of them organized now.

I made some inserts using foam core board to display my paints and threads.
I used this tutorial for my inspiration for those displays.
I also made an organizer for my ink pads.
I got the directions from this tutorial.

I also decorated the top a bit.

Don't you just love those hand carved wooden stamps!!

Well, its getting there.
I still have  lot to organize, but it's a start.

An update and a quilt top!

Hi everyone,

I hope you are all well.
My husband is still in a long term care bed.
He will not be able to come home until the end of August or early September.
He had a serious pelvic and left hip injury.
His pelvic injury is not healing well.
He may need surgery again.
But we are hoping it doesn't come to that.
He had a cast on his left wrist.
He had surgery on his wrist as well, but it is healing well and he had his cast removed last week.
He still doesn't have full strength of it yet.
But it's healing we'll.

We are all taking things one day at a time.
It's been hard, but we are surviving.

My daughter made another quilt for a school project.
This one was a group project.
The other kids helped with drawing up the blocks.
Brittany sewed all the sashing around the blocks and sewed the blocks in rows.
I helped by sewing the rows together and putting the borders on.
I took the picture with my IPhone so it's not the best.
I hope you like it!!

My husband was in a serious accident

Hi all, I'm writing today to let you know that I will not be blogging for a while. My husband was in a serious motorcycle accident last night and suffered serious injuries. He spend 7 hours in surgery today. He will need a lengthy recovery. I will be supporting him and my kids during this time. Keep us in your prayers. Hugs Ariane

The dress and apron are all done!

Hi everyone,

I had to make a costume for my daughter's play.
She needed a dress and apron for the play "Alice in Wonderland".
So, I took the challenge and made her a dress.

This is probably the most complicated piece of clothing I have ever made.
But, I'm happy with the way it turned out.
It fits her comfortably, and is decent.
The original pattern has a really low neck line.
So, I had to make that adjustment.
I used the Burda pattern 7556.
I used a polyester to make this dress.
It did have a bit of stretch, but it worked out.
I hope she likes it.
I put a lot of hours into it.

Fabric Postcards and more...

Hi everyone!

Happy Easter!!

Yesterday, I got caught up on my fabric postcard exchange.
I had three postcards to make.

The first one uses a challenge fabric.
The challenge fabric is the the three rectangles.
I used my new Sizzix Big Shot to die cut the flower.

The second card is based on a the Beatles song;
"Here comes the sun"

The third one has a "message"
It says "hello".

I used my Big Shot to die cut the dress form.
This die is from Stampin' Up!
The butterfly and flowers were die cut with dies from My Favorite Things.

I also made two regular cards with the stamps and
designer series paper I bought from Stampin' Up!

I used deconstruction sketch #94 as my inspiration for both these cards.
I find these sketches helps me to have a starting point for my cards.
Otherwise, I have too many options in my brain.

Well, I also sewed a new dress for my daughter.
I can't show it yet.
Maybe tomorrow I'll take a picture of her wearing it.

I'm quilting again......

Today, I worked on a really old UFO.
I started assembling the blocks my sister and my Mom exchanged in May 2009.
You can read more about the exchange here.
I decided to put the blocks together in sections.
I didn't want to have a big quilt in my machine.
So, I'm doing it quilt-as-you-go.
Quilting each panel of blocks, then putting the panels together to make the quilt.
I have the first section done.
The pinwheel block in the center is made by my Mom.
The corner pinwheel blocks are made by the four girls.
I've added some 9 patch blocks that I made around the same time as the pinwheels.
I sashed the 9 patch blocks to make them fit.
So this is my first panel. Yeah!!
I'm glad to finally get these together.
It took me a long time to figure out what to do with them.
The blocks were not all the same size.
I had to figure out a way to put them together that worked.
I think this is the best option.

Mini pinwheel Christmas quilt is done!

Today, I finally finished my little quilt.

It feels good to do some quilting.
Before yesterday, I hadn't touched my sewing machine in over two weeks.
Way too long!!!!

Here it is on the last little patch of snow in our front yard.
Last week we had record high temperatures and most of the snow melted.
Then, this week we were plunged into a deep freeze.
Without the snow, this cold weather could damage a lot of plants.
Hopefully they survive this crazy winter weather.

Maybe I'll get some sewing done next week when I'm off work again.
I work all this weekend. I do 12.75 hour shifts.
I'm so tired after work, I'm usually in bed at around 8:30 pm.
So, not much sewing gets done.

Oh well, I can only do, what I can do.!!

A mini Christmas quilt top.....

Today, I sewed this little quilt top together.
It's made from left over hst's from making the Holiday Lane Quilt.
This little quilt top is only 20 inches square.
It's a cute little thing.
Now, I just need to sandwich it and quilt it.
Hope you like it.

Stash Report - Week #1, 2013 and a finish!!

Today, I finished a quilt I started the week before Christmas.
I call it my Holiday Lane Quilt.
I was inspired by Jill Finley's Holiday Lane pillow pattern that she shared with us in November,
for the Holiday Lane Pillow Blog Hop.
You can find the pillow pattern on Jill's website Jillily Studio's
I just modified the size of the houses to fit with the blocks I had made for the body of the quilt.
This is a generous lap quilt.
It measures 55 X 68 inches.
The fabric for the front is Count Down to Christmas by Sweetwater for Moda.
I won a fat quarter bundle of this fabric over a year ago,
 on Darlene's blog Quilting Daze,
when she had a sponsored giveaway from The Fat Quarter Shop
So now I have a quilt to match my Holiday Lane Pillow.
I hope you like it!!

I decided to keep track of my fabric use this year.
Judy at Patchwork Times hosts the Stash Reports,
 and I'm joining her.
I will try to keep track of the fabric coming in and going out.
My husband says I need to join a quilter's anonymous group for my addiction. LOL!!!
But, I think I do quite well at using my fabric.
I just tend to hold on to my fabric scraps a bit too much! LOL!!
So, here goes.....we will see how bad I am.

Used this Week: 8.5 yards
Used year to Date: 8.5 yards
Added this Week: 0 yards
Added Year to Date: 0 yards
Net Used for 2013: 8.5 yards

This was a good week!!
Only stash fabric used for my Holiday Lane quilt.
Yeah!!
