Making a bag....

Hi everyone!!

I hope you are all doing well.
I've been doing okay!
I had an extremely busy weekend.
My daughter was auditioning for a singing competition in Toronto last Saturday.
So after working a 12 hour shift Friday, I got a quick 2 hours of sleep before driving 3 hours to Toronto.
We arrived at 3:00 am, then stood in line until 8 am just to register. She finally had her audition at 12 noon.
Then, we drove back to Kingston. She didn't make it.
We had to stop for an hour on our way back because we were too tired to drive.
Then, when we got home I rested a bit.
But I had to drive my oldest son to an outing then pick him up later that evening.
Lets just say I was exhausted!!!
The rest of the weekend was better, but still very busy with running around.

Did I mention that I was still sick.
Yup, I still have that nasty cold virus, turned lung, ear and sinus infection,
that I've had since the Friday before Mother's Day (May 11th).
I finally went to the Doctors today and they gave me antibiotics.
I just wasn't getting better.

Okay!!
On a happier note,
I was on strike yesterday,
from doing any running around!
You know, napping if I want too......no cleaning....no working....
no driving.....

So guess want I did, between napping, etc....
I made a bag and two zippy pouches.
Here they are.

The fabric used is Sanctuary by Patty Young.
I've had this fabric in my stash forever.

I used a pattern in a magazine to make the bag.
I didn't like how the straps and the body fit together.
If I make it again, I will change that.
I also added the large rectangle closure.
I didn't want people to see everything in the bag.
The two zippy pouches are made from some of the scraps.

Well, that's all for today.

A little denim bag for my daughter!

Hi everyone,

My sister Michele @ michele made me is having the Drop Dead Denim month.
A whole month dedicated to denim.

So, I decided that I couldn't just let her have all the denim fun.
I thought a little bag for my daughter would be cute.
This is what I came up with.

There are two front pockets, big enough to put your ipod in, or your cell phone.

As you can see, she had fun posing with her bag.
Such a cutie.

I may just make a tutorial for this bag.
It's very simple, but cute.
What do you think?

A teacher gift

Hi everyone!!
I hope you have all had a great day.
I made a bag today for my daughters teacher.
It was a last minute gift, as today was the last day of school.
Here it is.
I put a large pocket on the one side.
This pocket is big enough to put a large magazine.
The other side was left without pockets.
I put a zipper in the bag.
This is the first time I have done this.
It's not perfect, but it was good enough for today.
I added some pockets inside.
I tried using cotton webbing for the handles.
They look okay, but I don't think I will use it again for this type of bag.

My daughters teacher loved it.
So that was great.

I also got some great mail today.
The mail strike is over and I should be getting a few more packages in the mail soon.

This order came from Crazy Quilt Girl Fabric Shop.
I love this fabric.
Clermont Farms has some gorgeous prints.
I would love to get more of this fabric.

I will be away for the weekend.
My brothers getting married in Northern Ontario.
It will be fun to see all the family.

Edited to add:
Hey, I found more Baby GO! Cutter giveaways.
Here are the links.

Craft Buds - ends July 4th

Quilting Along The Gorge - ends July 10th

Have a great weekend.

January 2011 in review!!

Well, this was not a big sewing month for me.
But I did manage to finish a few projects.

I got my first UFO done! Yeah!!! That feels really good.

I also made a little hanging heart.
I love this one.
DSCF4518

And a little bag.
DSCF1474
And a mug rug.

I helped my kids make the placemats. Plus I quilted and bound them.
DSCF4499

I got 2 bee blocks done too.

Okay, well maybe I did better than I originally thought.
LOL!!!
I guess that's why it's always good to look back at our projects, eh!!!

I also did some work on my hexagon star quilt.
I got another 1.5 rows of stars hand pieced.

I'm trying to get a few more rows stitched to the main body of the quilt.
I really want to show you how big it's getting.

Well, I'm glad I had a look back at my month.
It made me feel much better.

It has been so cold here the last two days.

Your eyes water and your tears freeze to your eyelashes, it's so cold.
Unfortunately, I've been very busy and haven't had a chance to do much sewing.

Here is a picture of a bag I made a while back and gave to my friend Michelle.

Can't have a post without a photo.

I hope you like it!!

A Gym Bag for my 13 yrs old son!!

Hi everyone,

I hope you are all well. Today I made a gym bag for my 13 year old son. I had some camouflage canvas material and thought that would be appropriate for him. I wanted to spice it up a bit and make it look cool. You know.....so that he wouldn't be ashamed of it....and it would be stylin'.......So, I cut out his initials first out of some cream fabric. Then I used fusible web to fuse them to some dark denim. I then stitch around the  cream colored letters and left the edges raw. I cut out the letters from the denim, then pinned them to the bag fabric and sewed them on. I used my darning foot to sew them to the bag front. I didn't want it to look to perfect. I wanted it to have kind of a rough look. So I left the denim edges raw too. Eventually they will frey and it will look more worn. I made two straps out of the left over canvas and added a twill tape tab at the top so that he could hang the bag on a hook and bought a toggle so that the bag could be properly sinched and kept closed.

When he got home from school, I showed it to him. I was really nervous that he wouldn't like it. You know how 13 yr olds can be about their stuff. Well, he loved it. He gave me a big hug and a kiss. He said it looked really cool and that it was big enough he could you it when he went bike riding. I told him it was for gym.....oh yeah.....he said. LOL!!! Well, I'm just glad he liked it.

I hope you like it too!!

Another little bag!!

I hope everyone had a good day. I did a lot of running around today. But this morning I sewed another little bag. I took a picture of the two bags together. Don`t they look cute!!!

When I did my 1 year anniversary giveaway, I drew two extra names. I did not know what I was going to give them. So I made these two little bags. I hope Deb and Lisa like them. They are really cute. I had a lot of fun making them. I put them in the mail today.

I wish everyone a wonderful evening.

My daughters quilt top progress, a bag and my siggy blocks!!

I hope you are all having a wonderful day. I did get some sewing done today. First, I adjusted the sleeves on my MIL`s new winter coat. The sleeves were too long and the opening too big. So, I fixed it for her. She was very happy.

After she left, I started working on a little bag. I was still working on it when my daughter got home from school. She wanted to keep working on her Blush quilt top that she had started the night before. She had 36 rail blocks sewn and just needed to start sewing them into rows with the plain blocks. She did all the sewing on these blocks herself. She did do some of the ironing, but I did have to go over the blocks too myself. I cut out all the strips for her. I am not yet comfortable with her using my rotary cutter. I want her to keep all her fingers. She sewed all the blocks in rows. All she has to do is sew the rows together. I think she is doing really well. She is so excited about sewing with me. We were like two peas in a pod, last night and today. Two sewing machines on the table and us sewing at the same time. She talked non-stop the entire time and I had a big smile on my face. It was a lot of fun. So here are the rows she sewed today.
I made a little bag while she was sewing. Its nice to make little projects that can be done in one day. I used some Jennifer Paganelli -Dance with me, fabric to make the bag. It is so bright and cheery. I really like it. I used a vintage button on it. It adds a little bling to the bag.

Last night, I worked on my modern siggy blocks. I have half of them done. These are so cute. I just love these blocks. I think I am going to make myself more blocks like this for a more vintage quilt. These are so fast to make. I love them.

I have enjoyed my two days off. I have one more to go, then back to work for 6 days. hopefully I will have the chance to sew a bit more tomorrow. I have a lot of stuff to do though. So, we will see.

Celebrating with a Giveaway!!!!!

I hope everyone had a good day.
I did a lot of housework today.

But I also made something to celebrate my
1 year blog anniversary.
Yeah!!
Thanks to all of you who have visited
my blog over the past year and left comments.
It is very encouraging when people let you know
that you are doing a good job.
I love blogging and
look forward to sharing many projects with you this year.
I am off to a good start already.
I really want to get some of my UFO`s done too.
But I just can not get away from starting new projects.
I am addicted.

I am also celebrating my 200th post.
Which technically will be my next post.
But since I am already doing one giveaway,
I decided to have them at the same time.
So, I am giving away two packages.

The first is a large market bag that I made
from a Studio E Flourish and Nature-ology Fat Quarter Bundle,
I bought from The Fabric Shoppe.
I really love this bag.
My daughter really did not want me to give it away.
But I told her I will make her another bag.
I am also giving away 4 Fat Quarters of Authentic by Sweetwater
and a table runner pattern by Sweetwater.
The fat quarters will be a good start
on the fabric needed to make the tablerunner.

To get a chance to win one of these prizes,
all you have to do is leave a comment on this post
telling me which one of the prizes you would like best.
The first person I pick will get their first choice
and the second will get the other prize.

I will draw the winner on Friday, January 8th, 2010

So leave a comment and help me celebrate.

A Bingo Bag!!!

I hope everyone has been having a good day. I did a bunch of running around this morning. Then my inlaws took the kids skating. So, I thought I would make my Mother-in-law the Bingo bag she had asked me to make her. She loves bingo. She goes a couple of times a week. She wins almost everytime she goes, unless I go with her. We never win when I go. So, I`ve resigned myself to staying home. She has been helping us out a lot lately. So I thought it would be a nice little gift to say thanks for all she as done. I got the pattern for free from the Sew Sisters web site. It was really easy to follow and came together in just over an hour.

I`m going to try to do a bit more sewing tonight. We will see how things go. have a great night.

My trip back home and more Advent Swap gifts!!!

I hope that you all had a wonderful holiday. I had a wonderful christmas with my family in Northern Ontario. There was a lot of singing, food and celebrating. I have a huge family. So it is always a big celebration at Christmas when we all get together. We do not exchange gifts because it would be too costly to buy for everyone. I have 42 people in my immediate family. All my brothers and sisters gave my parents a gift and then we just celebrated together and enjoyed each others families. That is what Christmas is all about. The kids got to play games with their cousins and go sliding down the big hill behind my parents place. It was a lot of fun.

The drive to my parents was pretty good. The drive back was another story. We drove 13 hours in a blizzard. Normally, it only takes 9 hours for us to drive home. It was a very stressful drive home to say the least. I was glad we arrived safely. Many times we had to stop in the middle of the road because we could not see where we were. It was a total whiteout.

I also opened the last of my Advent Swap gifts. I just love all the gifts I received. Jeannette made me so many nice handmade gifts. I am so lucky. My main gifts was a wonderful handmade bag. I love all the tiny little pieces on the front of the bag. I love it. It is in my favorite color too. I have already used it to go out. My Mother-in-law tried to claim it, but I would not let her. Thank you so much Jeannette. This was a wonderful swap. Thank you also to Fiona for organizing this swap. It was so much fun.

I wish you all a very happy New Year. I will try to do a post of all my projects from 2009.

I received my Stitcher's Angel gifts!!!

Hi everyone, I just got home from work and received my Stitcher's Angel package from my swap partner Kylie.  Look at what I had to open. Aren't these packages beautifully wrapped!!!
I was so excited to open them. My daughter helped me with the wrapping. She gets so excited when I get packages in the mail. I received the most wonderful gifts.
She sent me a wonderful floss holder. This is definitly going to be handy when I'm working on my hand stitching projects. I always carried my floss in a ziplock plastic bag. This will help me stay organized. She also sent me three wonderful fat quarters. They are so nice. She also sent a wonderful little stitchery pattern. I love it. But best of all is the little stitched bag and needlecase. Here's a close-up.
I just love the stitching on the bag and needlecase. It's just wonderful. Thank you so much Kylie. I just love my whole package. Thanks Again!!!!

Thanks to Helen for organizing this Stitcher's Angel Swap. It has been so much fun. Thanks to all the wonderful designers who shared their patterns with us to make.

I also received another package in the mail today from my Advent Swap partner Jeannette. I can't open that yet. I have to wait until December 1st to open my first gift. There are 25 gifts in the package she sent me. One for each day until Christmas. I'm so excited. I can't wait to see my little gifts.

This has been a great mail day. It just made my day!!

My placemat quilt for PQS2

I joined the Placemat Quilt Swap 2 on flickr. It was my first flickr swap. I really had fun doing this swap and loved all the comments the others shared. We had a really great group. It was organized by krommama. Thank you so much for organizing a wonderful swap. I know it's a lot of work. But I really appreciate it.

My partner is piecefulchaos. I made her a maple leaf placemat with a matching potholder, 2 coasters and a little bag. She received it today. So now I am able to share it with all of you. I love the way it turned out. I purchased the Maple leaf paper pieced block pattern on etsy from Piece by Number. I love this maple leaf pattern. Then I designed the little placemat using the four blocks that I had made.

Then I decided to make her a potholder and some coasters with the leftover material. I thought a little bag to put them in would be handy, so I made one of those. It ended up a bit smaller than I wanted, but was still cute.
I hope you like what I made. I had a lot of fun doing it. I have to make myself some placemats with the maple leaf on it. Fall is my favorite season and I love to see the changing leaves. Well, that's all for now.
Happy Stitching!!
