A completed table runner!

Hi everyone,

I have another finish to share.
I finally finished this blue table runner that I started in October 2017.
I quilted it yesterday and finished the binding today.
I love how it turned out.

I free motion quilted it on my domestic machine.

This was made from scraps from my stash.
I picked a dotted fabric for the backing and I really like it.

Table runner progress

Hi everyone,

I took my blocks from my quilt guild BOM sew day and made a table runner.
It's not completely done. I still need to find a backing for it and quilt it.

I hope you like it!

A finished scrappy table runner!

Hi everyone,

I did some quilting and hand stitching binding today.
It allowed me to finish this scrappy table runner.

I started piecing this table runner in June.
It is all hand pieced from a kite shape.
I did not use English paper pieces.
Just old fashion tracing of a template, cut it out the pieces with scissors and used a quarter inch seam to piece the shapes together.

Here's a picture below of some of the piecing I did in Cuba on my holiday.

I decided to use a large floral print for the backing.

I free motion quilted in on my Janome 1600p-db sewing machine.
I really love how this table runner turned out.
This one is mine and I'm keeping it.
I hope you like it too.

A quilted table runner

I made myself a quilted table runner this past weekend. I used a charm pack that I had in my stash.

I also pulled out the Little Charmers pattern by Anka's Treasures that I've had in my stash for years and never used. I plan to make each of the table runners in the pattern. The first one I made has the snowball blocks. I didn't make it exactly like the pattern, but I still like it.

It was a little tricky because there wasn't a big mix of colors in this charm pack and I worried that it wouldn't look that great. But it turned out fine. I hope you like it too.

Three small finished projects

This week I finished two mini quilts. Both of these mini quilts were UFO's. The first quilt is a tulip quilt that I started in April 2011. It just needed to be quilted and bound. Here it is.
I struggled with the quilting a bit because my machine was acting up. But I got it done and I'm happy about that.

The next little quilt is really a placemat. I made a pink one last February as part of the RSC15. I had made the quilt top but never shared it on my blog after that. Here is my finished blue placemat.
I love how this placemat turned out. I again had difficulty quilting it because my sewing machine is acting up. It keeps skipping stitches and breaking threads. I think I might have to bring it in for servicing.

My Mom moved to town last summer and I've helped her make a few small sewing projects. One of these projects is this table runner. The pattern came from the magazine Primitive Quilts and Projects Winter 2015. She did all the wool applique and embroidery and I quilted and bound it for her.
Surprisingly, my sewing machine didn't have any difficulty quilting this projects. I didn't have any skipped stitches or thread breakage. I was glad since this one doesn't belong to me. My mom was not sure she really liked this one before I quilted it because the original pattern was made on a dark brown background. I provided all the material and wool for this project for her. When I picked out the background fabric, I didn't have the pattern with me and forgot what the background was like. But once it was all quilted and bound she loved it.  I'm so glad. Now she is excited to make another small wool applique project.

Well, I'm still working on a bunch of project at once. I  get bored sometimes with one project and need to work on something else to keep my mojo going. I hope you like the projects I shared today.

Finally getting some sewing done...

Wow! It's been over two weeks since my last post. I've been so busy.
My kids were in a school play last week and we have been running like crazy with everything going on.
With working, and fund raising, bake sales, basketball, air cadets, play practices and performances, house cleaning....well a bit of house cleaning anyways. It's been crazy busy. My house is such a mess right now. Oh well, I'll get to it eventually.

Yesterday, I finally got a chance to do some sewing.
I finished making the center of my mini jelly filled quilt top.
I just need to add the border.
This was all made from my stash.
It's a bright quilt.
I think it will be great for a little boy.
It will make a great play mat as it is bigger then I thought it would be.
I loved this pattern and will definitely make it again.
The pattern is Pint Size by Thimble blossoms.
There are two baby quilt patterns included in the pattern. Love that!!!
I used my 1.5 inch die and my GO! Cutter to cut the strips. It went so fast.

I also made a little table top flimsy using some of my scraps that I cut with the value die that camewith my GO! cutter. Red and Blue are my favorite colors. Once I have this one done, I will put it on my mantle.

This morning, I finished my March blocks for Felicity in the Maple Leaf Bee.

I know I'm really behind.
I've been a bit overwhelmed with everything going on.
I could barely keep track of where I was supposed to be. Luckily, I didn't forget to pick the kids up anywhere. Things are slowing down now a bit. Yeah!!!

Anyways, I'll try to blog more now that things are a bit more quiet.
I do work night shift tonight and tomorrow.
But, I'll try to get some hand stitching done!!!

A GO! Fall table runner tutorial!!

Hi everyone!

I hope you are all having a great day!

Here is my first tutorial ever!!!!

So bare with me!!

Here is the GO! when it is closed.
Here is the GO! when it is open.

I really like how sturdy it is. You can tell it is solid. It opens very easily.
This is the Triangle-Isosceles die. I have marked the lines of the shapes with a permanent marker as is recommended. I let it dry for a few minutes so that I wouldn't get any marker on my fabric.
I put my fabric over the die. I cut the fabric to a size just a bit wider then my shape.

Then, I put the mat over it and started cranking it through. I found it was easy to get it though.
Here it is going through the GO! Cutter. It does take a bit of strength, but not much.

Here is my fabric cut. There were a few threads that didn't cut,
so I just took the scissors and snipped them.

This die came with a pattern for a little pillow.
I like the design of the block, so I used it as my base pattern for my table topper.

I used two fabrics in each block. I took the two different prints and faced the triangles right sides together. I then started sewing them in pairs. As you can see in the picture above, I sewed them together starting from the tip of the triangle. It's best to sew it this way, because your points will match up better in the end.
I chain pieced the four pairs together.
I then ironed the seams towards the dark fabric.

I then took two of my sewn pieces and matched the seams at the top point.
The seams should just nestle together nicely. I put a pin to keep it in place. Then sewed them together.
I ironed this seam in the same direction as the other seams. You can see in the photo that all the seams are going to the right. At this point, I trim the little dog ears.
Look at how nice the points meet.
You then sew both halves together.
The one above was the first one I did.
It's not the best. I got better as I made more.
I made 4 of these.
I wanted to make them into a block.
So, I cut a 5 1/2 inch square.
Then cut it diagonally twice. That gave me four little triangles.
I pinned the little triangle to the corners of the block and stitched it on.
I ironed the seam towards the dark fabric.

This is a block. It is 10 1/2 inches unfinished.
I made four of these and sewed them together to make a table runner.
I added a 2 1/2 inch border all the way around the blocks.
Then, I basted it and quilted it, put the binding on, and VOILA!!!

Here is my finished table runner!!!

I hope you like it!

I have a few more tutorials coming up.
I really like the way the GO! is working up to now.
Once I use it a bit more, I will give you a full review.

Modern Siggy Block Swap 2 and Guild challenge Part 3

Hi everyone, I hope you all had a great weekend.
I didn't do a lot of sewing this weekend. I've been doing a lot of this.
But I did make most of my siggy blocks for the Modern Siggy Block Swap 2. I used some of the Amy Butler fabric that I had. I really like the way they look. I used Kona cotton for the white. I already had some of this white on hand. But I only had enough to make 81 blocks. So I will have to purchase more white on payday to finish my blocks. We need to make 101 blocks for this swap.  I really love this block pattern by Julie at Jaybird Quilts. This block was part of her Moda Bake shop pattern found here.
It is very easy to make and goes really quick. I will definitely be using this block pattern again.
I also finished my table runner for my Guild Block Challenge. This was made using the country blocks. I really had a hard time making this, not because it was a difficult pattern or anything. But my sewing machine kept breaking down on me. It was very frustrating. Nothing was working right. Don't you just hate when that happens. So, it's not my best work by a long shot. Oh well, I don't know what I will do with it, it is too long for my table. It will sit for a while until I figure out what I'm going to do with it.
Well, I hope you all have a great evening. I hope to get more sewing done tonight.

A finish and my beautiful tulips....

I finished my hand quilted table topper. I am very pleased with myself. I had a hard time at the beginning of this project. I struggled with the borders and ended up tearing it apart and putting plain borders on it. Then, I thought....it's too plain. So I decided to hand quilt it. That way it would have a bit more personality. I really love how it turned out. I signed my name at the back and embroidered it, instead of putting a label on it. This is a gift for a friend and it will be traveling to the other side of the world tomorrow. It is finally going in the mail. I hope my friend likes it.

It was so nice and warm here today. I worked in my flower bed and decided to take a picture of some of my tulips. I love spring and when my tulips start to bloom it just makes me so happy. Aren't they beautiful?

I hope you all had a good day. I hope to get more sewing done this week. We will see how it goes.

Almost done the hand quilted table mat

Hi everyone! I hope you all had a nice day. I wanted to share with you the hand quilted table mat I am working on. I showed you a sneak peak of it last weak. I am almost done. It is taking longer then I expected to finish it. But I keep making the quilting more intricate. Oh well, I'm having fun doing it. It is not very big. Just a little table mat for a side table. I hope you like it. My hand quilting in not perfect. But I am getting better as I go.

A sneak peak!!

Hi everyone! I hope you all had a great day. I worked my first 12.75 hour shift today. I am so tired. Yaawwnnn!!! I started this new roster at work, so that I would have more time off. I seamed to be working all the time before. Now I'll be able to spend more time with the family and more time sewing. But tonight I'm beat. It's going to take me a while to get used to these shifts. I work day shift again tomorrow and will be off  on the weekend. But then will be working the night shift. It's been a long time since I've worked night shifts. I have to start at 6:30 pm and end at 7:15 am. I should sleep like a baby after. LOL!!!

Well, I only have a sneak peak of some hand quilting I working on. This is for a gift. So, I can't show it all. I hope you like it.

Another Star Table runner done!!

I just finished the second table runner for my kids teachers.
I needed two teacher gifts and now that is done.

Woohoo!!!

There is so much to do, and so little time.

I worked today, and last night. I am working day shift all weekend.
My next day off is Wednesday.
So, I am going to be sewing in the evenings.
I do get tired easily.
I sometimes struggle with balancing work and home stress.

So, I am going to have to pace myself.

I need to start another hand stitching project.
That always relaxes me.
I usually have one on the go.
Maybe I will do one of those Christmas stitcheries
from the the Gum Tree Designers.
I do love their projects.
I have their blog button in my sidebar if you have not visited there yet.

I hope you all have a great weekend.
It has been very cold and windy here.
We got 22 cm of snow on Wednesday, then rain, then it froze.
So everything is very icy.
So if you are out there walking around, be very carefull.

Ariane :o)

P.S. I thought I should show you both table runner together.
They are the same, but different. LOL!!

I am back!!! My computer is fixed!!!

Hi everyone! I am so glad to be back. My computer is finally fixed. We do need a new keyboard though. But we will get that after Christmas. Thank you so much to all of you who have left comments on my pictureless posts. Thanks for hanging in there. I have added all the pictures to those posts. So if you did not go over to my flickr account, I posted them.

I made a Christmas table runner as a teacher gift. My daughter claimed it for her teacher. I have started a second one. But I am not done that one yet.

I also made a skirt for my daughter. It is going to be part of her Christmas outfit. I wanted to make something out of the material I had. So she will be able to wear this one into the summer. I just have to finish the top to go with it and get matching tights. I plan to make a headband to go with the outfit too. I made it using the Pink Fig pattern, The Mish Mash skirt and top! I love this pattern. The instructions were great and it goes up to size 12. Very cute pattern. I will share another picture once the whole outfit is done.

I am so glad to be back online. Christmas is fast approching. Ahhhh! Well I hope you are all well.

Happy Stitching!
