My vintage Singer...

Hi everyone!

I hope you are all well.

I didn't show you one of the bargains I got on the weekend at the garage sales.
I went to this one house that was having an estate sale.
All the contents of the house were for sale.
I walk into the garage and the first thing I see is a wooden sewing machine case.
I just had to look.
It was a beautiful black vintage singer.
I immediately plugged her in and she worked.
The price was $10.
I decide to go through the house to see what else was available.
Nothing interested me.
But, I had to buy this machine...and for that price, it was a great deal.

She came home with me, and weighed  a ton.
I just got a chance to test her out this afternoon.

I looked up the serial number and she was made in 1950.
I had to look up how to thread her.
Then, I was having bobbin tension issues.
But, it only took about 20 minutes and she was running smoothly.
I made a few blocks with her the afternoon.
I'm in love with her!!

She is a beaut.

Flea Market Rescues

Hi everyone! I hope you are having a good day! I wanted to share my flea market rescues from the weekend. I love to go to flea markets. One particular flea market in town is very dirty and a total disaster, really! They pretty much just dump things everywhere, and don't use any rhyme or reason when they set things up. I kind of like rummaging through the stuff because you never know what treasure you are going to find, and the stuff is usually pretty cheap. On one table I could see linens under a pile of tools. So, I decided to check them out. I found the most beautiful cross-stitched linens. The cross-stitching was so well done. I couldn't believe they were set under a pile of tools. There was 3 pieces together. I had to buy them. They needed to be washed and had some stains from being piled under the tools. But I managed to get the stains out. I am very pleased with myself. Here they are!
Aren't they gorgeous!!

I also made another purchase at the same flea market. Now, they did do a better job protecting this one. It was hanging from a hanger from a book shelf. It's a little wall hanging tea cup quilt. It's so cute. It is hand quilted and has needle turn applique. It is very well made. I just love it.
These items are all safe with me now. I have rescued them from the dirty flea market. I am very happy with my purchase. I hope you like them too.

Hugs

Great Finds from the thrift shop!!!

Today my daughter was participating in the regional track and field meet. So, I spent the entire morning with her and watched her events. When she was done competing, I decided to stop at Value Village to see what I could find. I was very fortunate to find two seperate bags of quilting fabric. They were $0.99 each. I couldn't really see everything that was in the bags. But I thought they are probably just scraps, and I love scraps so why not. I was soooo surprised when I got home to find that one of the bags had about 40 pre-cut 6 inch squares, with some other scraps of quitling cottons, and the second bag had a long strip of the same 6 inch squares sew together as the start of a quilt top and more pre-cut squares. Well, I decided to unstitch the sewn squares because the seams were very uneven. When I counted all the squares I had 74. Wow, for $2.00, I got enough squares to make a small twin quilt top. I was so excited. The great thing is that these are very nice quilting cottons. I even have some of these prints in my stash. Yeah for me!!!There were also two nice pieces of quilting cottons in the second bag. The first was a red and the other was a nice pale green print with beautiful red flowers on it. I think it's a japanese print. I also bought a beautiful flat full size sheet in a nice turquoise (aqua) blue. It has really nice flowers on it and is in amazing condition. This was a really good day. I am feeling a lot better now. Tomorrow I have to go back to the track and field meet for my middle son who is competing in the regional track and field events for his age group. Well, it's been a busy day.

Today is the last chance to enter the giveaway. You have until midnight tonight (eastern time) to enter.

Well, I hope you all have a good day.

Happy Stitching!!

I'm back with lots of goodies!!!

Hi everyone, I'm back from my Mom's. It was great to go there and relax. It's so peaceful there. I got to spend a lot of time outside. The weather was so nice. Not hot, but sunny and breazy. I sat on the swings and spent some time hand piecing some of my hexagon star quilt blocks. I'm completely done 4 rows. I have another 60 stars put together. I just need to add the white border around them. I'm doing well, considering I've been working on other projects and I took almost a whole week off sewing last week. I just wasn't well enough to do it. The picture above is of my four rows. It is very colourful. I love it. It's a slow process to hand piece all those stars. But it is very relaxing and rewarding. I went to Fabricland on Friday with my Mom in Sudbury, Ontario. They were having a 50% off sale for sewing club members, which I am. I bought 17.5 metres of fabric. I know, that's a lot. I got it for $5.oo a metre. I couldn't resist. I bought up to 3 metres of some of the fabrics. My daughter loves the colors. I plan to make a simple quilt for her double bed with it and a few pieces of summer clothing for my daughter and I. The red and white fabric I bought to eventually make a red and white quilt. Red is my favorite color. So I can't wait to have collected enough variety of fabrics to make it.
On Saturday, My parents and my family decided to go to some yard sales. The Anglican Church in the town they live in was having there annual church yard sale. This is a huge event in town. The deals are amazing. My parents got a lot of stuff. I bought a few things. I bought 2 pillow cases, some christmas fabric, 4 old magazines, and a Mary Englebreits book with a bunch of pictures of quilts. I thought it would inspire me. All this cost me $1.00. You can't beat that. Well, I have more pictures to share but I'll keep them for tomorrow. I hope you all have a nice day!!
Happy Stitching!!

Some purchases and New Blocks!

Hi everyone, I had a very good day yesterday. I went to the Salvation Army Thrift shop in town and bought 6 old quilting magazines for $0.25 each. They are great magazines and have really nice patterns in them. I also bought a bag of old buttons for $2.00. I love buttons and this bag had some big buttons which I love to use for my bags. I'm going to have fun with these. I then went to the quilt shops in town. I found some Snippets by American Jane at "Garden Thyme Quilt and Gift Emporium". This is the cutest shop. If you come to Kingston, Ontario you have to stop there. It's a gift shop, that sells all kinds of country style home decor items. But they also have a nice selection of quilting fabrics. They sell lots of 1930's reproduction, some civil war reproduction, and a vast array of other styles of fabrics as well. They also sell punch needle patterns and kits. It's a very nice store. Great to find a special gift for someone. I just found it about a month ago. I'm so glad I did. I also started working on the blocks for the baby boy quilt I'm making. I used the maverick star pattern. I really like it. I'm making the stars two different sizes. I can't wait to have it all put together. I really hope my friend likes it. I think he will. Well, I have to do some housework today. I've already started. I'm doing laundry and mopped the floors already so I have to get back to work. Have a good day!!
