Sew Modern Bee Quilt done!!!

Today I finished my Sew Modern Bee Quilt.
I had added a bigger border to the quilt top in order to make this a bed size quilt.
It's now a long twin size.

I'm going to donate this quilt to my Quilt Guild's Community Quilts Project.
Every year this group tries to gather twin size quilts to send to orphanages around Chernobyl, Ukraine.
I thought this quilt would be perfect for that.

I had fun trying a bunch of different free motion quilting designs.

Some I really loved and others....well, they are okay.
The border fabric I had won in a giveaway from Contemporary Cloth and the backing is also from my stash.

I haven't washed it yet, but it should crinkle up nicely!!

I hope you like it.
One more UFO off my list.
And an OPAM finish for May.

I've been on a blog holiday!!!

Hi everyone,

I hope you are all well.
I have been taking a break from blogging.
It's summer......
and I have been spending time with my family.

I did do some sewing.
I forgot to take pictures of a few items that I made.

But I do have pictures of a UFO that I made some progress on.
I was cleaning my sewing area,  and found my 4 patches for the border of my
Sew Modern Bee quilt.
This quilt started 13 months ago
with my fabric being sent out to the lovely ladies of the Sew Modern Bee.
This quilt has been a struggle for me.
I'm definitely more a traditional quilter, than a modern quilter.
I love modern quilts, I just don't succeed that well at making them myself.

So, I managed to finish the border on this quilt and the
top is now done.

Yeah!!!!
Progress......gotta love progress!!!

I also wanted to share with all the Canadians out there looking to save some money on everyday products.
I'm sure many of you watched that Extreme Coupon show on TLC.
Well, we don't get many coupons in Canada.
There are websites though that will send Canadians coupons in the mail.
I decided that I would request some for myself.
I got some in the mail and waited for the products to go on sale in the local flyers.
Then, BAM.......I dropped my coupons. LOL!!!!
I saved $32.00 on just the products below.
So, combining my coupons with the sales already on was a big savings.

Here are some of the sites I got the coupons from:
http://brandsaver.ca/en_ca/

So, if you feel like saving a bit of money, do a google search for Canadian Coupons.

Anyways,

Have a great day.
I will try to blog more.

My April Bee Blocks

I had fun working on my April Bee Blocks.

These are the blocks I made for Valerie.
These are for the Maple Leaf Bee.

This is the block for Donna.
This is for the Sew Modern Bee.

I've also made some progress on my Carpenter Star quilt, but I don't have a picture to share yet.
I made one of my maple leaf blocks too, for the Canadian Quilt of Valor that Cara is organizing.
I just have two more blocks to make.
I will share them when they are all done.

I have to work nights tonight and tomorrow night.
Wishing you a good day.

Bee blocks and wings......

Sew, today I've been sewing like crazy.

First, I made two of my Bee Blocks that are due.

For Michelle, I made this one.
I love this block.
It's in my favorite colors too!!!

And for Sara, I made this one.
I struggle with this kind of block.
I hope she likes it.

Also, my daughter is in a school play and needed a costume.
She is a bird.
Sew, I needed to make her some wings.
I got this set done today and brought it to the school to see if they approved.

Well, they liked it so much, they asked if I would make 2 more sets for the other two girls who are birds.
I kinda figured they would want the other girls to have the same kind of wings.
Sew, I bought enough material to make three sets.
I'm almost done the second set.

Sew, back to the sewing machine.

Blocks for Jennifer

Hi everyone,

Today, I finished sewing my blocks for Jennifer.

She had asked for uneven stars using this tutorial.

I had agreed to make an extra block since one of the other girls had a baby.

Here they are.

I just had to fussy cut the centers.
These are made with the "Dream On" fabric line.
The small little pinwheel blocks are made with the left overs from the blocks.
So, there's no waste.
Love that!!
The bottom little block is the signature block I made.
I haven't signed it yet. But I will.

I hope you like them.

I'm behind on my bee blocks again.

So, I got caught up with Sarah's blocks this morning.
Here they are.

A liberated Churn Dash Block and...

A signature house block.

I have to take my oldest to the doctors this afternoon.
Hopefully I can get the other 3 done today and in the mail too.

I'm glad to be off work today and tomorrow.
It's nice to be able to sleep in until at least 7:30 am.
Getting up at 5:00 am is a little early for me.

Have a good day!!

Some bee blocks that are overdue!!!

Hi everyone!!!

Tonight I finally got all my Bee blocks done.
They are late.
But they are done.
Now I will be back on track again.
So, here they are.

These star blocks are for Tong in the Sew Modern Bee. I just love these. They are so whimsical. I love the soft colors. Just so pretty!

These blocks are for Sharon for the Maple Leaf Bee. I hope she likes them. They are simple, but I really like them.
 The fabric is just gorgeous!!

These are huge 15 inch blocks for Katrina for the Maple Leaf Bee. These were way out of my comfort zone. But I enjoyed making them. I hope that she likes them. They came together really quick.

So, three sets of blocks that are completely different. It was fun to work on them.
Tomorrow, I hope to work on a few more projects.
Until then.....

Sew Modern Bee quilt top in the works!

Hi everyone!

On Tuesday I did some sewing on my quilt top for the Sew Modern Bee. My month was June. I asked for a 12.5 inch block. I wanted the girls to make a small 6 to 8 inch traditional block for the center, then border it with a small white border that finished at 0.5 inches, then a Kona Coal border to bring the block to 12.5 inches.

I love all the blocks I received. I then used one of the Hunky Dory Aqua prints to sash each block and put a star in between the center blocks. I'm not sure if I will put another border around the quilt, or just quilt it the way it is. But I do have a lot of left over small pieces.

I hope you like it. I had fun working on this top. Thanks to all the girls from the Sew Modern Bee for making me such wonderful blocks.

August Bee Sew Modern Blocks

Hi everyone, I finished my August Bee Sew Modern Blocks. These were quick and easy to make. Alison asked for three simple pinwheel blocks. She had already cut the fabric, so all we had to do was sew. It was very nice. She is going to be making a version of this quilt, but larger. I can't wait to see it all done. Here are my blocks.
Well, I just finished working my second night shift this morning. I'm still really tired. The humidity was so bad the last two nights. It made for two very long shifts. I'm off the next two days, but I'm heading back to the cottage. I don't plan to do too much more than just relax. I'm exhausted. I hope you all have a great couple of days.

A little break from the cottage and some pics!

Hi everyone, I hope you are all well.
I have been at the cottage all week with my inlaws and the family.
We rented a little cottage just 20 minutes from home for the whole month of August.
My inlaws are staying there the whole month,
but we will be going back and forth since my husband and I have to work.
The cottage is tiny. It is ment for a family of 4, but we have been 7 people and 3 dogs.
A bit crowded!
But we have been managing.
We've had lots of fun fishing and playing games.
My husband brought his guitar and we sang
while roasting wieners and marshmellows over the fire.
Even though I grew up in in North Ontario where the mosquitoes are plenty,
still struggle with them. They drive me crazy!!!
I've been using a lot of bug spray.
I'm home for the weekend with the hubby and the kids.
It's nice to be back to my central air and the comforts of home.
Ahhhhh!! I love to be home!!!!

I also wanted to share my July block for the Sew Modern Bee. Nicole wanted blocks with circles and she sent the cutest fabric. I decided to do some fussy cutting around the cute little prints. I used fusible web to adhere the circles to the background then hand stitched around each circle with a blanket stitch using embroidery floss. I really like this block. I hope Nicole likes it too.

I have a few more projects to share, but I will wait until tomorrow. I need to take more pictures. I'll be around until Tuesday. So I hope to share a bit more in the next couple of days, before I go back to the cottage.

The BCF Quilt-along update!

Hi everyone! I finally got my fabric cut for the Between Charming Friends Quilt-Along. I was waiting for our background fabric to come in the mail. It finally arrived today. So, I got my fabric cut and also B-Sew Cute's fabric cut. Hopefully tonight we will be able to get started on the sewing and catch up.

Here is B-Sew Cute's cut fabric. She chose Aqua SKU# 9900-34 from Moda's Bella Solids collection as her background color. I just love it. I think it will look great with her "Sweet" Charm packs.
Here is my fabric all cut up. I used White as my background fabric. I decided to use the red polkadot from the Make Life collection for the binding though instead of the white. I think polkadot's look so great as the binding. And it will co-odinate great with my Make Life charm packs.
I also received more blocks in the mail today for my Month of the Sew Modern Bee.
I've received 9 blocks so far. I just love them. This is my first Bee, and I'm loving it. I also love the fact that it's all Canadian girls and we don't have to worry about customs. The shipping is so much cheaper too.
Here are my blocks so far.....

I will be putting sashing in between these blocks. I think they look great. Can't wait to receive the rest of my blocks.

I hope you all have a great day.

A block for the Sew Modern Bee

Hi everyone, I hope you all are having a good day. I was thinking about the blocks I want for my month of the Sew Modern Bee. The first block I made was 16.5 inches square. It was nice, but I wasn't too sure I liked the size of it. So, I made a smaller 12.5 inch block last night. I used a pattern I got from the Quilter's Cache for the center. It is a 7 inch block. Then I added a half inch white border and the coal grey border. The inner block is centered. I like this better. I am a traditionalist at heart. But I love modern fabrics. So, I think my style is more like that of Modify traditions blog. She makes traditional blocks using modern fabrics. I really love that look. It's more "Me". So, I think that is what I'm going to ask for my month. A smaller traditional block, bordered by the white and coal solid fabric. What do you think? I hope they like this idea.

I am very disappointed in myself. I missed my quilt guild meeting last night and I was home. I remembered at 9:00 pm. I was so disappointed. I guess I just have too many things on the go. I'm forgetting things. Oh well, I must remember the next one, because it's the last one of the season.

I have to work night shift for the next three nights. I prepared one of my Schnibbles quilt to hand quilt during those wee hours of the night. Don't tell though.....I need to stay awake. It keeps me going. So when I'm on break I just quilt. Hopefully I can get quite a bit of it done.

Have a great Mother's day weekend.

A few blocks...

I worked on my May block for the Sew Modern Bee today and got it all done. I hope she likes it. I had run out of the off-white material. But I managed to find some at a LQS. I'm very pleased with the way it turned out.

I also worked on a pattern for my months of blocks. I wanted to try something I hadn't done before. This is something I came up with myself. I call it the subway tile block. That's where I got the inspiration. I really like it. I struggle a bit more when I'm using modern fabrics. So, I'm really proud of how it turned out. I don't expect the other Bee members to make this block. This is just an idea of what I'm looking for. I hope you like it.
