Sampler quilt progress

Hi everyone, 

I managed to get two borders on my Sampler quilt the last few days. 

There are a lot of pieces. But I love the look of it. 

I'm working on the side borders now too. It's going to be a nice twin size quilt when it's done. I can't wait to have it finished. 

I have so many projects and other things going on right now. I've been busy.  

I decided not to do two versions for our guild BOM. It's just too much. I think this pattern is very nice and will do the trick. I'm excited to have made that decision. I know that it's the right one. 

 

Napanee Heritage Quilt Show

Hi everyone, 

On Saturday, I attended the Napanee Heritage Quilt Guild Show with my daughter. 

We had a great time! 

I took a few photos. I wish I had taken more. But you know how it is, I get distracted by all the beautiful quilts and forget to take a picture. Lol!

My favourite quilt of the show was this 365 Challenge Quilt. 

 

The piecing was amazing and the quilting was perfect. It was not overly quilted. Which I loved. 

I loved this fancy forest quilt. It was adorable!!

This Cosmos quilt was beautiful and so well quilted!!

This wall hanging was gorgeous!! I really loved it! It's called the Dance of the Dragonflies. 

The next few quilts are scrappy quilts that were in the community quilts section. This group makes donation quilts for various organizations!! I really loved these. 

The squares in this quilt top are 2.5 inches. Crazy awesome string quilt.

My Canada's Big Bee quilt is done

Hi everyone,

I hope you are all well! 

I worked a lot last week. 

I was off work yesterday and managed to finish this donation quilt. 

I quilted it with a simple meander. The binding is scrappy. 

The backing came from my old stash. It's a super soft robot print. Perfect for a little boy. 

I really loved making this quilt. It's going to a Ronald McDonald House for a child who is going through treatment at one of the Sick Kids Hospital in Canada. 

I think this is such a worthy cause. I've had two family members use these services. So it's very close to my heart. I hope the child that receives this quilt loves it. 
 
 

 

A Blackbird Gathering, a finished quilt

I finally finished this quilt. 

I free motion quilted it with my Janome 1600p-db. It worked like a charm. I also made a matching mini table topper quilt with the leftover strips. It's super cute. 

Here they are together!

I'm glad to have this off my list of UFO's.

Again, this was all made from cotton and wool from my stash. Yeah!!!

Slow Stitching Sunday

I will be working on my Millefiori Rosette #1 this evening. I have prepped many of the remaining blocks. This is where I finished off last week. 

This rosette is all made with older fabric from Art Gallery Fabrics. I've had the fat quarters in my stash a while. I thought these were great for fussy cutting. I love how they look together.

Canada's Big Quilt Bee

Hi everyone, 

I've finally finish the quilt top that I made for Canada's Big Quilt Bee. They are collecting 1000 quilts to donate to the Ronald McDonald House Charities. It will be given to a sick child that is at one of the Sick Kids hospitals in Canada. 

They had wanted slab block quilts. But you know me, I can't just follow instructions. Lol!  

Lorna from  Sew Fresh Quilts had come to our guild and given a trunk show. Well, I bought six of her patterns. I pulled these out and chose three blocks that I thought would work well. 

As you can see they are super cute. The beaver, the bird and the raccoon are all patterns by Sew Fresh Quilts. 

Then I wanted to add the bounding bunny block by Sally Trude from the blog, The objects of design. This is also such a cute block.  

I had to cut one of my slab blocks to make space for the beaver block. But I think the quilt top turned out super cute. 

I need to make a backing for it now and quilt it.

A gift for my Mom

Hi everyone, 

I made a quilted table topper for my Mom's birthday today. She loves bright colours and flowers. So, I fussy cut a large flower print and made a shadow box block with them.

 I initially quilted it with organic lines and it looked awful. I took all the quilting out, which took forever. Then, I quilted it with a tight pattern. I needed to do this because you could see all the spots from the old quilting. 

I was really nervous about the colours of this table topper. But when I gave it to my Mom, she loved it. I was relieved. 

I used a large Kaffe Fassett print as the backing. I hope you like it.

Slow stitching and RSC block ideas

Hi everyone,

I've been working this weekend.

It's interfering with my quilting. LOL!

Oh well, I can't buy fabric if I don't work. LOL!

Anyways, I have had time to do some slow stitching in the evening after work.

I picked up my Millefiori rosette #1 and I'm doing the final round.

Don't look too closely at the stitching on this EPP project. I'm terrible at EPP. I don't know why. But it's just not my thing. I will finish this round and make it into a wall hanging and that will be the end of this project. I love hand piecing better than EPP. I'm just better at it. 

Also, I worked on my sampler quilt the last few weeks, and some of the blocks that I made would be good for the RSC challenge. These are 12 inch blocks and look great all scrappy.

I think I will add these to my must make RSC blocks for next year.

I might even make some this year and catch up with the colours we've already covered.

What do you think? I used the Essential triangle tool by Bonnie K. Hunter to make all the HST's and flying geese. It's so much easier. These were all made from 2 1/2 inch strips. 

Anyways, I didn't do my spending report for March yet.

March was my birthday month. I turned 40 this year. AHHHHHH!

Okay, I'm getting up there. But I'm actually quite happy to be 40. I'm coming into my own, more or less. And I'm in a good place right now.

So, since it was my birthday month, I did spend more than I should have. 

I hope this is not a trend though. LOL! Because, I'm supposed to be good this year. LOL!

I don't know if this program is working, or if I'm just spending as much as I normally do.

Oh Well!

So, I bought a new to me sewing machine for $400. It was a steal and I couldn't pass it up.

That's my big birthday gift to myself. And I did do some fabric shopping. I spent a total of $192.50 on fabric. I bought 9 fat quarters, a 1 gallon scrap bag, and 11 meters of yardage. I also purchased the Essential Triangle tool by Bonnie K. Hunter and the EZ dresden ruler.  

So, my total spending for quilting stuff so far this year is .........$695.40

Ouch!! That does include a sewing machine though. Ughhhhh!

Okay, I need to get back on track. LOL!
