OPAM finished for March

Hi everyone! I hope you are all well. I had four finishes for the month of March. They are my Double hourglass quilt and 2 potholders and a pincushion. I did a lot more sewing then that. But I just added a bunch of projects to my UFO list. Oh well. I just love to sew new things. I am happy to say that I did finish a row of 17 hexagon stars to add to my Hexagon star quilt. That's 7 rows done, 8 rows left to go. I'm getting there. These are all hand pieced so it will take a while. Well, I have to work tonight. Only one more night to work then I'm off for the long weekend. Yeah!!! Five days off in a row. I can't wait....

Quilt-as-you-go Quilt Along!!!

Hi everyone, I made my first block for the above Quilt Along. Penny from Sew Take a Hike has organized this Quilt Along. I thought it would be great to use up my scraps. My first block turned out a bit wonky. But, that's okay. I kind of like it that way. Now I can start on my second block. Here is the flickr link to our group. My blocks are going to have a mix of modern and traditional country fabrics. A bit of a strange combo, but we will see how it turns out.

My Roundabout quilt top!

Hi everyone, I hope you all had a good day. I spent some time with the family today. It was a relatively quiet day. But that was nice. The kids rented a scary movie to watch. I'm not into scary movies, so I let my hubby and the kids watch the movie and I did some sewing. I finished my March Schnibbles quilt top. I really like this top. It was a bit more challenging getting all the seams to line up. It is not perfect. I did take a lot of seams out to try to get it to work better, without much luck. I still like it though. It just won't win any prizes. I hope you like it anyways.

A bit of sewing and some fabric!

Hi everyone, I hope you are all well. It has been a busy week for me. I worked that last 6 days and I am very excited to have the next three days off. I have lots of housework to catch up on, but I do hope to get some sewing time in too.

I did do a little bit of sewing. I have been working on my March Schnibbles quilt. I have a few blocks done, and a bunch that are half done. I have to cut more fabric to finish this. I am using the Snippets fabric by American Jane. I bought these last year. I have used this fabric for other projects, but I had quite a bit left over. I thought it would be perfect for this pattern. Hopefully I will get the top done before the end of the month deadline.

I also got a package in the mail today from Sew Love Fabrics etsy store. I bought a scrap bag and two metre cuts of some "Apple" fabric by Timeless Treasures. I was really excited to see what I got in my scrap bag. I got some beautiful pieces and I can't wait to use some of these.

I celebrated my birthday on Wednesday. I had to work evening shift, but my husband gave me some money to buy more fabric. He knows me very well. LOL! I ordered some from the Fat Quarter Shop. It was all on sale too. I should get it next week. Can't wait!!! I hope you all have a great night!

Potholders and Pincushions

I hope everyone is having a nice day. I did some sewing this afternoon and got one of my swap projects completed. They are the potholders for Potholder Pass 2. My secret partner will be recieving these two potholders and get a little extra gift of a pincushion. I made the pincushion from some of the scraps left from making the potholders. I used the Tuffets pattern. This was my first tuffets pincushion. I love it. I can finally add that to my finished Schnibbles Projects. These are really modern. I tried to use the colors my partner requested. I checked out my partners blog and she seemed to like this style of fabric. So I really hope she likes them.

Jack the Pulpit block# 2

I hope everyone had a good day. I worked again today. It was a quieter day for me. Which was nice. I did sew my second block for my Jack the Pulpit quilt. I hope you like it. It is fun to work with all the reds in my stash.

Just a few blocks...

Hi everyone! I hope you all had a good day. I worked today. I was really tired when I got home, but my hubby had the table all set and dinner ready to be served when I walked through the door. Isn't he the sweetest. I was so relieved. And it all tasted great. I did take a nap after supper. But I decided that I wanted to do a bit of sewing.

So, I decided to start working on a quilt that I need to make for my best friend from High School. She is getting married this summer and I am giving her a quilt. It took me a long time to decide what pattern to use. I went through so many magazines and books. But I finally settled on one of my favorites. It is called "Jack the Pulpit" from the McCalls Quilting magazine: Celebrate your Stash Spring 2009. This is one of my favorite issues. There are three other patterns I want to make from that issue. Anyways, I love the colors in this quilt and I think my girlfriend will love it too. It is going to be a red and white/cream quilt. It will have many different fabrics from my stash in it. I thought I would stick to what I love the most for this one. I love scrappy quilts and red is my favorite color. So everytime she sees this quilt it will remind her of me. We don't see each other very often because she lives back home in Northern Ontario. But we are still best of friends. I am going to try really hard to get this top done in a timely manner. I don't want to be too pressured at the end. So I am going to try to make a block every night. If I miss a night, then I will make two the next. We will see how that goes.

I also sharing two blocks I made for my two guild swaps. One is for the county block swap and the other for the brights block. I hope you like them. Well, I must go to bed. I have to work in the morning.

Double hourglass quilt is done!

Hi everyone! I hope you all had a good day.
Sorry I haven't posted in a week.
I have been so busy with work, the kids and life.
I did get some sewing done in the last two days.
I finished the baby quilt for my MIL.
I really like the way it turned out.
I did have problems with my newer sewing machine.
I am going to have to bring it in to have it serviced.
Thankfully I have my old trustworthy machine to fall back on.
That machine, which I am going to name "Betty"
because she is made by White. (Get it!)
I'm not very good with jokes.
Old Betty has not been serviced in over 20 years and she is still going strong.
She is heavy duty and a bit banged up.
 But she always works.
Once I figured out how the tension worked on it,
I have never had a problem with it since.
I just wish I could do free motion quilting with it.
Hmmmm......I am going to have to look into that a bit more.
Well, here is my quilt. I used soft flannel for the back!
I think it is very cute!
I hope you like it!

Okay! So I decided to add borders....

My Sunday Best quilt just got bigger. It is 66.5 inches wide and 94 inches long. It will make a nice size bed quilt. After I saw the parade of quilts on Sherri`s and Sinta`s blogs, I just had to add the borders. It just made the quilts look so much better. So I worked on it all evening. I am proud to say this quilt top is all made from my stash. I didn`t go buy any new material. Well, now I have to get the backing put together.

Amazing mail!!!

I received an amazing package in the mail today.
It came all the way from New Zealand.
Catherine at The Sewing Attic was having a giveaway on her blog
and had so many wonderful prizes.
 Look what she sent me....

Thank you so much.
 I love it!!!
The pincushion is amazing.
The fabric roll, the buttons, ribbon and chocolate was too.
The chocolate didn`t last too long.
My daughter also loves buttons
and she was so excited to look through them.
I am going to have a lot of fun making something with the fabric.
Thanks again!!!!

Double hourglass block quilt top

I hope everyone had a good day. It is past 1:00 am and I just finished sewing the double hourglass quilt top. My MIL asked me to make a baby quilt for a friend who is expecting a boy. She wanted lime greens and blues. So, this is what I came up with. I used the tutorial on Allison`s Cluck! Cluck! Sew! blog. This is a great tutorial. I am definitely going to make this block again. All I need to do now is buy some batting and backing fabric. I think I will use a nice soft flannel. Well, I am glad I got this part done. I hope to accomplish a bit more this month. We will see how that goes.

OPAM finishes for February, a gift in the mail and more......

I am finally posting my February OPAM finishes. I only have two little potholders. Not a very productive month for me. Oh well!!! I hope to do better next month.

I also received a wonderful gift in the mail.
I actually won a giveaway on Jeannette`s blog, Serendipity Designs.
It is one of the Red Delicious blocks she made. I love it. I will make it into a lovely wall hanging.
Thank you so much Jeannette!!!

My mother-in-law asked me if I could make a baby quilt for her to give as a gift. She wanted it to be lime green and blue, since her friends baby room was to be decorated in those colors. Good thing I had bought some of those colors online earlier, because they are not popular in the local stores. I have made four blocks using the Cluck, Cluck, Sew! tutorial for double hour-glass blocks.

On another note, I just want to congratulate all the Canadian Athletes who participated in the Olympic Games. The games were amazing. The performances by all the athletes from all over the world was just wonderful. The winter games were so well presented, and really made me proud to be Canadian.
