Wonderful Mail!!!

Hi everyone!

I got home from work this evening and found a package waiting for me on the table.
I couldn't remember if I was supposed to receive something in the mail.
Then, I looked at it and realized that it was a prize I won in a giveaway.
I'm like.....YEAH!!!!

I rip it open!!!!

I got two wonderful books from Melinda Evaul.
One for me, and one I gave to a great friend.

This is her new book called "Grow Old With Me".
I can't wait to start reading it.

I also got 10 beautiful note cards with quilts on barns.
I love, love, love these!!!!!

And last but not least, 5 beautiful fat quarters of different shades of blue.

I'm so excited.

I drove over to my friends house and gave her one book.
It was a surprise.
I thought she might need some weekend reading!!!

Go visit Melinda's web site.
I'm definitely going to order more of the quilt barn note cards.
They are perfect to use for the packages you send out for swaps, or with gifts.

Thank you so much Melinda.

I'm working all weekend.

Note: My back is getting better. I still have to be really careful how I walk or move, but I'm just taking it slow.

Some hexagon stars.....

Sew, I haven't blogged in over a week.
I pinched my sciatic nerve in my lower back, and I've been kind of taking it easy.
I did work on my hexagon star quilt last week.
I have 9 rows of 17 stars sewn together.
This quilt top is all sewn by hand.

It is really long, and it's hard to take pictures of it.
It's the size of a twin quilt now.
But, it's going to be a queen size whenever I get it all done.
This quilt has every different style of fabric.
It's like a story quilt about all the different fabrics that I have purchased since I started quilting.
I really love it.

I hope you like it too.

A little Valentine's quilt

Hi everyone!

I hope you are all doing well.

Yesterday, I decided to join the "Small Quilt Talk" Yahoo group.

SmallQT

This group is organized by Kathleen Tracy.
The wonderful designer and author of books like "American Doll Quilts", "Remembering Adelia", "Prairie Children and their Quilts" and her newest book, "The Civil War Sewing Circle".

So, last night I was trying to keep myself awake.
I have to work a 12 hour night shift tonight, and I like to stay up really late the night before.
That way it's not as hard on me to stay awake for my shift.
I didn't really feel like working on my current projects.
I hadn't started anything new in a while.
So, I decided to make a little Valentine's quilt.
I used the pattern that Kathleen provided in the group.

This is the little quilt top I made.

It is only 17 inches square.
It's all made from my red and cream scraps.
I think it is so cute.
I still need to quilt it.
But I'm glad I made it and it satisfied my urge to make something new.
So, I'll be working night shift for the next two nights.
I hope you all have a great couple of days.

Happy Valentine's Day!!!

I hope you all have a wonderful Valentine's Day.

I am spending my day with My Honey.

It's going to be a good day.

On another note, I found this on flickr this morning.
It's a Rob Peter to Pay Paul scrappy block made by Molly Flanders.
Oh!! I wish I had this GO! die.
Isn't it wonderful?
You must check out her flickr account here.
She does some wonderful hand quilting with perle cotton.
Her quilts are beautiful and modern.
She also has a wonderful blog here.
Go check it out.
You will be inspired.

A bit more progress....

I've got the first row of my "Summer Dresden Quilt" done.
I'm working on quilting my fourth block now.
Here is what it looks like right now.

My pictures aren't the best, since it's a very gray day outside.
I'm really enjoying making this quilt.
The quilt-as-you-go method I'm using is from the Happy Zombie tutorial here.

I hope you like it!

A work in progress....

Hi everyone,

Last night I decided that I would start finishing my Dresden Quilt. I wanted to hand quilt this quilt using crochet cotton. I have a lot of crochet cotton. So, I dug through my bin of crochet cotton and found the two colors I wanted to use. I wanted to try a quilt-as-you-go method to put this quilt together.

Sew, I sandwiched my block and started quilting it last night. It is definitely more difficult to hand quilt using the crochet cotton. But the effect is definitely worth it. What do you think??

I'm almost done quilting this block.
Then, I have 11 more blocks to go.

This is my UFO project to complete for the month of February.
So, here's crossing my fingers that I can get it done.

Blocks for Jennifer

Hi everyone,

Today, I finished sewing my blocks for Jennifer.

She had asked for uneven stars using this tutorial.

I had agreed to make an extra block since one of the other girls had a baby.

Here they are.

I just had to fussy cut the centers.
These are made with the "Dream On" fabric line.
The small little pinwheel blocks are made with the left overs from the blocks.
So, there's no waste.
Love that!!
The bottom little block is the signature block I made.
I haven't signed it yet. But I will.

I hope you like them.

Three blocks for Nicole!!

Sew....after resting a bit this morning,

I decided to finish Nicole's December block for the Maple Leaf Bee 1.

This was a fun block to make.

I really hope that she likes how I placed the fabric.

Maple Leaf Bee 1 ended in December.

I decided to join the Maple Leaf Bee 2.
This time it's just 6 of us and we make 2 blocks each month.
February is the first month and Nicole is the first to go.

She wanted some Drunk Love style Log Cabin blocks.
I haven't done this block before.
I had fun with it, and will definitely do it again.

Here are the two blocks I made for that.

I hope Nicole likes them.
They were mailed off today.

Now, I just have to finish my January blocks for the Sew Modern Bee and I will be all caught up again.
I hope to work on those tonight.
