Making a bag....

Hi everyone!!

I hope you are all doing well.
I've been doing okay!
I had an extremely busy weekend.
My daughter was auditioning for a singing competition in Toronto last Saturday.
So after working a 12 hour shift Friday, I got a quick 2 hours of sleep before driving 3 hours to Toronto.
We arrived at 3:00 am, then stood in line until 8 am just to register. She finally had her audition at 12 noon.
Then, we drove back to Kingston. She didn't make it.
We had to stop for an hour on our way back because we were too tired to drive.
Then, when we got home I rested a bit.
But I had to drive my oldest son to an outing then pick him up later that evening.
Lets just say I was exhausted!!!
The rest of the weekend was better, but still very busy with running around.

Did I mention that I was still sick.
Yup, I still have that nasty cold virus, turned lung, ear and sinus infection,
that I've had since the Friday before Mother's Day (May 11th).
I finally went to the Doctors today and they gave me antibiotics.
I just wasn't getting better.

Okay!!
On a happier note,
I was on strike yesterday,
from doing any running around!
You know, napping if I want too......no cleaning....no working....
no driving.....

So guess want I did, between napping, etc....
I made a bag and two zippy pouches.
Here they are.

The fabric used is Sanctuary by Patty Young.
I've had this fabric in my stash forever.

I used a pattern in a magazine to make the bag.
I didn't like how the straps and the body fit together.
If I make it again, I will change that.
I also added the large rectangle closure.
I didn't want people to see everything in the bag.
The two zippy pouches are made from some of the scraps.

Well, that's all for today.

Hexagon and a pouch!!

Okay, so I did paper piece some hexagon out of scraps left-over from cutting those little charm packs.
I decided to use them to make little pouches.
I'm going to sell these at my yard sale.

Hopefully they sell.
But if not, I do need some for myself, so no worries.
These are all made from stuff in my stash.
Yeah!!

Gotta work!!

Another finished potholder and some zippy pouches

Hi everyone! I hope you all had a nice weekend. It was a holiday weekend here in Canada. Unfortunately I had to work all weekend. I had Monday off though and did a bit of sewing. I finished my second potholder for Potholder Pass 3. I used more of the left over hst's from the modern siggy swap 1. I really love this one. I set the hst's in a star pattern. If you don't know yet....I LOVE STARS.  So this one is my favorite. I love the way the quilting looks too. If you are looking for inspiration to make potholders you need to go check out this flickr group. The potholders are just amazing.

I also decided to play with some of my scraps and made 2 little zippy pouches and two scrunchies. I really like them. I bought some essex linen/cotton blend material today and I'm going to make more of these little zippy pouches. I think they would make nice gifts. I really like these ones found here. So that's what I'm going to try to make the next time.

Well, I have to work midnight shift again tonight and tomorrow night, then I'm off for 5 days. Yeah!!!! I'm almost done quilting my Madeline quilt. Should be able to show you the finished quilt in the next day or so. It is turning out really great. I love it.

I learned to sew on a zipper!!!

Hi everyone, I finally took the plunge and decided to try and sew a zipper in a project. I used a tutorial from twelve 22 on how to make a coin purse. It's a great tutorial. I followed the instructions and got it right on my first try. I was very happy. I also made a matching pin cushion. Don't they look cute. I really like the way they turned out.So, then I got adventurous. I decided to try to make a bag for one of the boys. I find it hard to make things for them, without them looking too girly. So, I made a small bag with a zipper that he can put over his shoulder and be hands free. I wanted it to have a zipper on it, because they all seem to misplace things that were in their pockets. So I though this would work. The outer material is canvas weight. I think it turned out pretty good considering I just did it without a pattern or anything. It's a large coin purse that I just modified a bit. I added a few front pockets. The boys couldn't believe that I made it. So that's a good sign. My older boy said: "It looks like a purse. But I don't care what others think. You made it for me." He is so sweet. You gotta love them. My oldest is 13 and is taller them me by about 4.5 inches. He's going to be a big guy. Well, I have to go.
Happy Stitching!
