An update and a quilt top!

Hi everyone,

I hope you are all well.
My husband is still in a long term care bed.
He will not be able to come home until the end of August or early September.
He had a serious pelvic and left hip injury.
His pelvic injury is not healing well.
He may need surgery again.
But we are hoping it doesn't come to that.
He had a cast on his left wrist.
He had surgery on his wrist as well, but it is healing well and he had his cast removed last week.
He still doesn't have full strength of it yet.
But it's healing we'll.

We are all taking things one day at a time.
It's been hard, but we are surviving.

My daughter made another quilt for a school project.
This one was a group project.
The other kids helped with drawing up the blocks.
Brittany sewed all the sashing around the blocks and sewed the blocks in rows.
I helped by sewing the rows together and putting the borders on.
I took the picture with my IPhone so it's not the best.
I hope you like it!!

Scrappy modern baby rail fence quilt!

Hi everyone!

I hope you all had a great day today!

It was Father's day, and I spent a great day with my husband and my kids.
It was just beautiful outside.
This evening I finished working on one of my scrap busting projects.
My small 3.5 inch blocks turned into a simple baby rail fence quilt.
I decided to keep the border simple.
I'm really happy that I made this all from my scraps and stash.

I don't know when it will be quilted, but at least it's a finished top.
Have a great day.

My mini raw edge circle quilt top done!!!

Okay!!

This will be a short post, because I have to get to bed.

So, I finished this little quilt top tonight.
I hope to quilt it tomorrow night,
and hand it in on Wednesday.

Do you think I can make it?
We will see.

I hope they like this.
There are not a lot of quilters that use modern fabrics in my guild.
I think that some would if it was more available in our area.

I think this would make a cute little quilt for a little girl to play with.
She could use it for her dolls, or just as a security blanket.

On another note, I was featured on Stash Manicure today.

http://stashmanicure.blogspot.com/

Yeah!!!!
I was a plan B guest blogger.
I had volunteered to write a post,
in case something happened and one of the other guest bloggers couldn't post.
And today was the day.
So go check it out.

Well, that's all for today.

My red dresden quilt top is DONE!!!!

I just want to say thanks to everyone who has been leaving comments about the progress of this quilt top.
I'm just so thankful for all the support you guys all give me in my quilting journey.
It really makes my day!!!

So, I've been working on the borders this afternoon.
I put of solid cream border that finished at 1 inches wide.
Then, I decided to pull out all my little strips of red and cream fabrics. I cut them 2 1/2 inch long. I used all different width of strips from 1 1/2 inches, to 2 1/2 inches wide.
Then, I chain pieced a cream piece to a red piece until all my pairs were sewn together. Then, I divided all my pairs into four piles. Then started sewing all my pieces together to make four strips.
When my strips were long enough, I sewed them on to my quilt.
So, these borders were pretty randomly pieced.
But, I really like the way they turned out.
And I busted more of my stash of reds and creams.
Yeah!!!!

So, now I have to figure out what I'm going to use for a backing.
I hope you like the way it's looking!!

Four Gifts of Grace Blocks done! & Charming Girls Club goals!!!

Hi everyone! I hope you all had a great weekend. I finished two more blocks of the Gifts of Grace BOM by Val Laird. So, now I have four blocks completed. I have them pinned to my Snippets quilt in my sewing room. It's my make shift design wall. I really have to get a real design wall soon.
I have started the fifth block. I've got quite a bit done. But those letters take a while and I haven't started those yet. I hope you like my blocks.

I'm also part of the Charming Girls Club and the theme for the next two months is Quilting the Quilt. I really need this theme. LOL!!! I have many quilts that need quilting. So my goal is to quilt at least 3 quilts by the end of our session. If I get more done, then they will be a bonus.

The quilts I hope to get done are:

These are not in any particular order of importance.
I just want to get them done.

These are also not the only projects that I want to work on during this time.

1) I hope to get a lot done on the Gifts of Grace BOM which I shared above. These are going to be for a Christmas gift. So I need to get them done.

2) I want to get another little quilt done for my guilds mini quilt auction being held in November.

3) My daughter wants a bigger pencil case. She loves the one I made, but she has a lot of pencils. So...."Bigger" she says....LOL!!!

So, that's it. Well......that I know of anyway. You know me......I like to start new projects even though I really should finish the old projects.

I hope you all have a great night.

Sew Modern Bee quilt top in the works!

Hi everyone!

On Tuesday I did some sewing on my quilt top for the Sew Modern Bee. My month was June. I asked for a 12.5 inch block. I wanted the girls to make a small 6 to 8 inch traditional block for the center, then border it with a small white border that finished at 0.5 inches, then a Kona Coal border to bring the block to 12.5 inches.

I love all the blocks I received. I then used one of the Hunky Dory Aqua prints to sash each block and put a star in between the center blocks. I'm not sure if I will put another border around the quilt, or just quilt it the way it is. But I do have a lot of left over small pieces.

I hope you like it. I had fun working on this top. Thanks to all the girls from the Sew Modern Bee for making me such wonderful blocks.

Between Charming Friends quilt top done

Hi everyone, I hope you all had a good day. The weather was gorgeous today. I went for a nice walk early this morning and it was so relaxing and cool.

I also finished my Between Charming Friend quilt top. It was supposed to be done a few weeks ago, but I just didn't have the time. I really like how it turned out though. The fabric is "Make Life...." by Sweetwater for Moda. I really love this collection. It's really modern and sweet. Now I just have to baste, quilt and bind.

I also have my second block for the Gifts of Grace BOM done too. I really like this one too. So sweet.

Here is another picture from the cottage we rented.
This is late in the evening. Such a nice view of the lake.

Have a good night!

Borders and a Sweet gift!

Hi everyone, I hope you are all having a nice day. I finally put the borders on my Shabby Roses BOM quilt top. I have had the blocks put together for quite a while now. So today I wanted to get a little farther along with this project. This is definitely one of my favorite quilts that I have made. I just love these blocks designed by Jenny of Elephantz blog. They are adorable.

I also received a sweet gift in my mail box from Michelle at Dresden Quilter. I had given her a tiny piece of fabric about a month ago, so that she could finish one of her Bee blocks. It was just a tiny little piece. She bought me a fat quarter and a card to say thanks. Wow!!! I was so blown away. This was so generous of  you Michelle. I didn't mind sharing with you and the gift was not necessary. But I am very grateful. Thanks so much!!!!! It goes perfectly with the two other fat quarters that I bought from the same collection.
Well, I'm working night shift for the next three nights. I'm going try to do a bit of stitchery this weekend. I did want to do some hand quilting but realized that I don't have enough bigger pieces of fabric to do the backing on the quilts. The fabrics that I do have are just NOT the right colors either. Hmmm......more shopping! LOL!!!

Have a good night everyone!

My Jack-in-the-Pulpit quilt top is finally done!!!!

It is finally done. I sewed 12 hours yesterday and 5 hours already today to finally finish this top. I still have to baste it, quilt it and put the binding on. But first I have to remove all the paper off the back from paper piecing. The pattern suggested not to take the paper off until the top was done. The two shorter sides of flying geese were paper pieced. Even though I do love this technique because you get perfect flying geese, it is much more time consuming. Well, I'm not going keep you. I have more sewing to do.

I got some sewing done...

Hi everyone! I hope you are all well. I have been doing some sewing, even though I have not posted in quite a few days. I don't have pictures of all my projects, but do have the picture of the center of my Jack-the-piper quilt. I'm still working on the flying geese border. But I got quite a bit of it done last night. This has definitely been a more challenging block. The center of the block was paper pieced. That part went together quite easily. But the outer triangles were a challenge. At first I was making the seams too big, even with my 1/4 inch foot. I wasn't getting the 10 1/2 inch block I needed. I was always short. Then, I tried to make the seams scant. But then it was too big and I was cutting off the corners when the sashing went on. Ahhhh!!!! Well, I did my best. Mr. Seam Ripper got a lot of use. Oh Well!!!! I like the way it's looking. I'm pretty sure my girlfriend will like it.

My Roundabout quilt top!

Hi everyone, I hope you all had a good day. I spent some time with the family today. It was a relatively quiet day. But that was nice. The kids rented a scary movie to watch. I'm not into scary movies, so I let my hubby and the kids watch the movie and I did some sewing. I finished my March Schnibbles quilt top. I really like this top. It was a bit more challenging getting all the seams to line up. It is not perfect. I did take a lot of seams out to try to get it to work better, without much luck. I still like it though. It just won't win any prizes. I hope you like it anyways.

Okay! So I decided to add borders....

My Sunday Best quilt just got bigger. It is 66.5 inches wide and 94 inches long. It will make a nice size bed quilt. After I saw the parade of quilts on Sherri`s and Sinta`s blogs, I just had to add the borders. It just made the quilts look so much better. So I worked on it all evening. I am proud to say this quilt top is all made from my stash. I didn`t go buy any new material. Well, now I have to get the backing put together.

Double hourglass block quilt top

I hope everyone had a good day. It is past 1:00 am and I just finished sewing the double hourglass quilt top. My MIL asked me to make a baby quilt for a friend who is expecting a boy. She wanted lime greens and blues. So, this is what I came up with. I used the tutorial on Allison`s Cluck! Cluck! Sew! blog. This is a great tutorial. I am definitely going to make this block again. All I need to do now is buy some batting and backing fabric. I think I will use a nice soft flannel. Well, I am glad I got this part done. I hope to accomplish a bit more this month. We will see how that goes.

A Winner, My Sunday Best quilt top, and more.....

I hope everyone has had a good day. Sorry for taking so long to announce the winner of my giveaway! I wrote all the names on paper and my daughter B-Sew Cute picked the winner. The winner is.................

a good yarn said...

Congratulations Ariane - how marvellous! You're a celebrity now. Ann :-)

I am so glad that Ann won. She comments on my blog all the time. Thank you so much to everyone who commented. I am amazed at all the support you give me. I love to quilt and hope to make many more in the future. I also love that my daughter has wanted to quilt with me. It is so much fun to have that time together.

I also finished my Sunday Best quilt top. I decided to make it into a twin size quilt. I used my stash and I love the way it turned out. So, now I need to figure out what to do for the backing. I don`t usually buy big pieces of fabric, so I am not sure if I am going to piece a back or go out and buy some fabric. So, here it is....

I also received my potholders from the Potholder Pass Swap. This was a really fun swap. My partner Trisha sent the most wonderful potholders and a gift for my daughter too.  She sent my daughter two fat quarters and a pattern. She was so thoughtful. Thank you so much Trisha.

Well, that is all for today.......

A few works in progress....

The last couple of days, I have done a little bit of sewing on different projects. I finished the Woodland Bloom Quilt top for my daughters room. This is a queen size quilt. It measure 99 inches by 80 inches. This is the biggest quilt top I have ever made. I am a bit scared to quilt this monster on my little domestic machine. But I will get it done.

The next project I have been working on is my hexagon star quilt. I have not worked on this quilt in quite a while. This top is all hand pieced. It will also be a queen size quilt. I have 9 more rows to do. I have about 60 stars made that just need to have the white border put on. I do love this one. I did not iron it before I took the picture. So it looks a bit shabby.

Tonight I decided to play a bit with my little 1 1/2 inch half square triangles that I had leftover from one of my quilts. I made a tiny little zig zag block. Isn`t it cute? The finished squares are 1 inch.

Well, I did not finish anything. But I did get some work done. I am working all weekend. So, I am only going to get a bit done. I hope you all have a nice weekend.

Ghest Blogger.....My daughter.....B-Sew cute!!!!

Finally I finished my quilt top! It took so long and I really wanted to finish it. Well I`m very glad! I got my mom to line up all the seams and pin it so I could quilt it. Tonight I decided to keep the blank blocks(used to be stars) blank. So anyway I should stop talking cause everyone keeps saying I talk too much, so anyhow, here`s the finished quilt top.
I made this top by cuting 36 blocks in small rectangles and sewed all the small blocks in rows of 3 for each block. Then sewed them together in the strips and then sewed them all together to make the quilt top. Now all I need to do is get some yardage for binding and the backing fabric.
I was thinking of using flannel for the backing, because ......I won`t lie..... I absolutely love flannel. It is so soft and awesome for making a quilt. But I am still not sure I guess I`ll have to wait and see.!!!!!Hugs

!!!B-Sew cute :o)!!!

P.S
To all quilters out there don`t stop quiltin.... it is awesome and fun. And enjoy my moms blog because I think it is awesome. Oh ya I forgot if you think this is my mom it is her 10 year old daugther...B-Sew cute!!!!

My Madeline quilt top is done

Hi everyone!
I hope you all had a great day.
Today was my last day off.
I go back to work tomorrow.
So, I took a "me" day today.

I relaxed this morning.
Then I went out to lunch with Michelle (Dresden Quilter).
It was our first lunch out together, so that was nice.

Then I went to a couple LQS and looked around at what they had.
I bought a few fat quarters, but that's it.
I then came home and made supper.

After supper was done I decided to work on
my January Schnibbles quilt top.
We are doing the Madeline pattern this month.
I used two Aster Manor charm packs for my top.
I really like that fabric line.
I might buy more in order to make this quilt top bigger.
I haven't decided yet. This top is only 28"x28".
So it is quite small. It's really cute that way though too.
So I'm not sure what I'm going to do yet.

I'm glad I got this top done early this month.
That way I don't have the pressure to do it at the last minute.
Well, I hope you all have a good night.

I finished my Schnibbles Picnic quilt top!

Hi everyone, I hope you are all well. I finished my Schnibbles Picnic quilt top tonight. I honestly didn't think that I was going to get it done on time. I have been feeling really horribly lately. I really need to see my doctor again. But I'm surviving, and taking things one day at a time. I really love this little quilt top. I'm keeping this one too. It was a lot of work. But definitely worth it. I ripped out a lot of seams in this one in order to get it right. But, I wanted to do a good job. So, I couldn't just leave the mistakes. I'm happy that I did the extra work. It was worth it in the end. I really had to push to get through this top since I felt so terrible. I'll always be able to look at this one and remember that I just kept going when I felt rough and came out ahead with a wonderful little quilt top.

My computer is fixed!! Here is my photo!!

Motivation to finish projects.....

Hi everyone, I hope you are well!! I've been working on so many swaps and little projects lately that I haven't worked on some of the projects that I've started a while back. I know that I'm not the only one with UFO's. It's one of the side affects of becoming addicted to quilting and fabric. You just always want to start something new. Well, I sent out my last swap of the year. I've been really good and didn't sign up to any more swaps so that I can work on some of my projects. I've done 8 swaps this year. I think that's pretty good. So, here's the list of projects that I need to finish.

  1. Schnibbles Cindy Lou Who Quilt - needs to be quilted
  2. Woodland Bloom Quilt - need to finish the border then quilt it
  3. Hexagon Star Quilt - hand piecing this top, have 6 rows of 17 stars done, 9 rows of 17 to go
  4. Rocky Road to Kansas Quilt - 6 blocks done, 6 blocks to make
  5. Shabby Roses BOM - 4 blocks done, 8 left to do
  6. 9-patch Quilt Along - Not very far along, need to work on this one
  7. Sister's Quilt - need to sew the blocks together to finish the top
Now, my "I want to make" list is much longer .  But I"m trying to not think of those too much. I'm going to try to work on these projects this month. I'm still going to make the Schnibbles quilt if I get the pattern on time. But I really do want to get some of these done. Let's see if I can get some of these projects done. Even if I get only one totally done and some progress on others, I'll be happy. But I'm really going to try hard not to start any new projects. That's going to be really hard. Well I hope you all have a great night.

Edited to add....... Well, since I plan to work on all these projects, I might as well join the "Joy of New Year Challenge" by Jacquie at Tallgrass Prairie Studio. I'm going to try to get as many of these projects done before the New Year. So let's get to work!!!!
