Quilting the Carpenter's Star quilt!

Hi everyone,

I hope you are all doing well.

I decided to quilt my Carpenter's Star quilt myself.
I'm using my daughter's Kenmore sewing machine, because it was recently serviced.
So, I knew it was working well.

Considering it's about 30 years old, it is quilting very well.
It's hard work, quilting such a big quilt on a little machine.
My arm and hands were really hurting after a few hours.
I decided to do some simple free-motion quilting on it.
That way I didn't have to turn the quilt constantly.
I just worked on one block at a time.
This made it a little easier.

I started in the middle and I'm working my way out to the edges.

I'm almost done.
I only have about 1 foot and a half left to do around the edge of the quilt.
I'm very excited to be getting this done so well.
I worked night shift last night and work night shift again tonight.
I probably won't be able to finish the quilting until Wednesday.
But that is still so great.
Can't wait to be done.

I completed the Carpenter's Star quilt top!!!

Hi everyone,

I hope you all had a great day.
I am off work this weekend.
It was so nice out the last two days, and I was working.
Now, I'm off and it's raining.
I really shouldn't complain, since there has been so many natural disasters this year.
With the earth quake in Japan, flooding in Quebec and Manitoba, flash fires in Alberta, Tornadoes in the US, it's been a really crazy year for bad weather.
My prayers are with everyone going through those hard times.

Today, I finally finished my Carpenter's Star quilt top.
I tried to take a good picture of it, but it was so windy and wet.
I managed to go out when the rain stopped for a bit.

It's 96 inches square.
So, now I just have to get it quilted.
What do you think?

Sew, Mama, Sew! Giveaway Day!!!!

May Day Giveaway @ Sew, Mama, Sew!

Hi everyone,

I'm participating in Sew,Mama,Sew! blog May Giveaway Day.
It's always a lot of fun to share with all of you.

I've decided to give away a Moda charm pack of  Miss Jump's Scrapbag by Linda Brannock.
This is from an older collection, but would be perfect for a little civil war quilt or table runner.

and a little housewife needle case, like the one I made below.
It won't be the one shown below. I haven't made it yet. I will post the picture of the one I'm giving away late on Monday.

Here's the housewife needle case I'm giving away.
It's in my favorite colors,
Red and White.
I'm adding those cute little scissors and the spool of thread.

All you have to do is leave a comment telling me what inspires you to quilt, sew etc.

That's it.

I will randomly draw the winner on May 25th after 7pm eastern time.
I will ship internationally.

Good Luck.

My Carpenter's Star quilt is getting bigger!

I've been working on my Carpenter's Star quilt.
I just have to do the HST border and then another white border and it will be done.
I can't wait.
It should finish at 96 inches square.

Hope you are having a nice day.
The sun came out a bit today.
It was a nice break from the rain we have been having.

Napanee Heritage Quilt Guild Show

Hi everyone,

I went to the Napanee Heritage Quilt Guild Show this weekend.
I attended with my sister Michele, and my friend Michelle.
It was a fun outing with the girls.

I took pictures of a lot of the quilts.
They were beautiful.
Here they are:

Don't you just love the fish!!!

I love this scrappy pinwheel quilt. It was huge. I love the black sashing. It makes the colors pop!!!

The squares in the quilt above are 1 inch finished. Don't you just love it?

The quilt above was done in a quilt as you go, rag quilt style. All done in flannels. Love it!!

The quilt above is all hand pieced and hand quilted. It was one of my favorites.

Look at that binder cover. It is a wonderful idea. Love it.

I love this maple leaf quilt. So beautiful!!!

The quilt above was done using needle turn applique. So much work. It is gorgeous!!!

The quilt above uses asian fabrics. I just love how they used it. It's beautiful.

Don't you just love those cats?

I love this log cabin quilt. The setting is just wonderful. I love how they added the house block. So unique. Love it!!!
Look at the wonderful apple core quilt. I love how they used the colors in it.

And finally, this wonky log cabin quilt is gorgeous! I love how they added the friendship blocks in the cornerstones.

Well, that's all the best pictures I took.
I hope you liked the show.

Small Quilt Talk Needle Case Swap!!!

I participated in the Needle Case Swap in my Small Quilt Talk Yahoo Group.

It was a lot of fun.

It was nice to make a small project.

Here is the one I received from my partner Cathryn.

Needle Case from Cathryn

She sent me some fabric swatches and those cute little scissors too.
I love it!!!
Needle Case from Cathryn

I made her one too.

I forgot to take a picture of it with the goodies I added to her package.
But here is the needle case that I made her.

Her favorite color is purple, so I used the purple fabric that I had.

I hope she likes it!!!

Some great mail

I had ordered some books from Martingale & Company a few weeks ago.
They had a sale on books with small quilts.
So, I jumped at the chance to get them at such a good price.
Here they are.

I just love them.
If you haven't been on Martingale's web site, you should check it out periodically.
Every week, they have a new "Weekly Wow" sale.
These can be books or videos at up to 50% off.
You can't beat that.
They also offer free shipping if you order 3 or more.
So, as you can see I ordered 3.
It does take a little while to get them shipped to Canada.
It took a little more then 3 weeks.
But it is worth the savings.

Hope you all have a great weekend.

My April Bee Blocks

I had fun working on my April Bee Blocks.

These are the blocks I made for Valerie.
These are for the Maple Leaf Bee.

This is the block for Donna.
This is for the Sew Modern Bee.

I've also made some progress on my Carpenter Star quilt, but I don't have a picture to share yet.
I made one of my maple leaf blocks too, for the Canadian Quilt of Valor that Cara is organizing.
I just have two more blocks to make.
I will share them when they are all done.

I have to work nights tonight and tomorrow night.
Wishing you a good day.
