Blogger Quilt Festival - Fall 2010

Hi everyone,

I thought I would share one of the quilts I made at the beginning of my quilting journey.
This quilt was completed in February of 2009.

It's my Jacob's Ladder quilt.
I made it for my second oldest son.
I used scraps of fabric from my other two beds quilts that I had made for my oldest son and my daughter. You can find them here.
Even though, this was not that difficult a block pattern,
it took me a long time to finish it.
It was very time consuming trying to make sure that I didn't have the same colors close to each other.
I had just started quilting that year.
So, even though this is a scrappy quilt, I only had so many scraps.
I didn't have much of a stash. All my stash fit into an under bed storage bin.
One bin. LOL!!!
This was the fourth quilt that I made, and the third bed quilt.
This quilt is a twin size quilt.
The border on it was very difficult for me.
I cut all the pieces for the border with a scissor.
And well, my cuts weren't exact.
My seams weren't exact.
I was just a beginner, doing a difficult border.
It was really tough to get it to fit.
I ended up making an adjusted piece to make the border fit.
I quilted it myself.
It is very simply quilted.

But you know what?
I still love it.
It is an everyday quilt.
So, my son has it on his bed as we speak.
It's been washed many times.
It is still beautiful.

Thanks to Amy for giving us the opportunity to share our quilts with others.

Go, check out the rest of the quilts in the blogger quilt festival.

My finished Jacob's Ladder quilt

I have my first finish for the month of February. It's great that I was able to finish a quilt. It was a big project. It took me 5 months to complete this quilt. That seems like a long time, but I was working on two other quilts at the same time, plus Christmas gifts, working, I could go on and on. I'm just glad it's done. My son will be very happy to finally have a quilt that I made on his bed. He's been excited for me to finish it. I hope you all like it. It won't win any competitions. But I think it's great. It's bright and cheerful. It's unique, since it's a scrappy quilt and it was a great pattern for a boys room. It will go well with the quilt I made for my oldest son, since they both have a diamond pattern in them and the colours are similar. The two boys share a room. It's done!!! Yeah!!!!!! Well, I hope you all have a great day.
Happy stitching!!

Almost Done!!!

I worked all day Sunday on my Jacob's Ladder quilt. I finished the machine quilting. I put the binding on. All I have to do is finish hand sewing the binding to the back of the quilt. I'm so close to being done. It's very exciting. I didn't do a lot of fancy quilting on it. But I really like the way it turned out. I just have a bit of the binding done. I almost ran out of fabric to do the binding. It's a scrap quilt. So I was using scraps from other projects and almost ran out. Anyways, here's a bit of the finished binding. I hope everyone has a great day.
Happy Stitching!!

Finished Pieced Border

I finally finished the pieced border for my son's quilt. It was very difficult for me. I had to rip it apart 4 times because it didn't fit the quilt. I had to make an adjustment block for the top and bottom because the border was short one inch. The two long sides had the same amount of blocks but were different lenghts. It took me forever and really tried my patience. I'm just a beginner and probably should not have taken on such a difficult border. But I did it. It's not perfect. It still looks really good. I'm proud of myself for not quiting all together. I still have to put a small border on the outer edge of the pieced border, but then I can put the quilt together. Yeah!!! My son keeps asking me when it will be done. Well, he can't say I haven't been working hard at it. I don't think it helps that I haven't slept well the last four nights. Well, I'm just happy that I got this done. We had a snow day today. The kids got to stay home from school. We are having a big snow storm. It was a good thing it was my regular day off, otherwise I would have had to take the day off work. Well, I hope everyone had a good day.
Happy Stitching!

Pieced Border in progress

Hi everyone, I showed you a picture earlier today of the first border I put on my son's quilt. I have been working on a pieces border to add to it. I have done a bit of it and thought I should show you. I'm really excited to get it done now that I've seen how it will look. This is my first time putting more detail into a border. I really like it. I still have a ways to go, but it's a start.

A border, a block and some new fabric

Hi everyone, I finally added a border to my son's Jacob's Ladder quilt. It's the first of many. I am in the process of making a pieced border for it. The border really brings the colours of the quilt out. I really like it.I also made a "turnstile" 12 inch block. I'm going to be making a scrap quilt using this block. So, I just wanted to try one. This is going to be part of a block swap I'm organizing with my sisters and my mom. We are going to be making 30 blocks each and swaping 6 to each of us. Then we will all end up with 30 blocks for a quilt top made by the 5 of us. It's really quite exciting. I just getting their packages ready so that we can get started on it. FUN!!! :o) I also went shopping the other day and bought more fabric. I just couldn't help it. Plus, all this material was on sale. I just couldn't leave it at the store. I didn't go too crazy. But I needed my stash to grow a little. So here's what I bought. The fat quarters were only $2.00 each and the metre cuts were only $3.00 and $4.00 each. I just couln't pass it up.
It made my day anyways. I have to go to work now. I wish everyone a great day.
Happy Stitching!

Another Scrap Quilt

Today, I was off from work. The kids were all excited, playing with their Christmas toys. My husband was sleeping. He worked midnight shift last night. So, I decided to work on one of the quilts I've been working on. It's a scrap quilt that I'm making for my second oldest son. The pattern is "Jacob's Ladder". It has been more demanding than I first thought it would be. There are so many colors in each block. Twenty-eight to be exact. The pattern I had was for a king size quilt. I just made a twin. I still need to add a few borders. I'm glad to finally get to this point. The center panel is all done. Yeaaaah!!!! Here it is.
