Slow stitching and RSC block ideas

Hi everyone,

I've been working this weekend.
It's interfering with my quilting. LOL!
Oh well, I can't buy fabric if I don't work. LOL!

Anyways, I have had time to do some slow stitching in the evening after work.
I picked up my Millefiori rosette #1 and I'm doing the final round.

Don't look too closely at the stitching on this EPP project. I'm terrible at EPP. I don't know why. But it's just not my thing. I will finish this round and make it into a wall hanging and that will be the end of this project. I love hand piecing better than EPP. I'm just better at it.

Also, I worked on my sampler quilt the last few weeks, and some of the blocks that I made would be good for the RSC challenge. These are 12 inch blocks and look great all scrappy.
I think I will add these to my must make RSC blocks for next year.
I might even make some this year and catch up with the colours we've already covered.
What do you think? I used the Essential triangle tool by Bonnie K. Hunter to make all the HST's and flying geese. It's so much easier. These were all made from 2 1/2 inch strips.

Anyways, I didn't do my spending report for March yet.
March was my birthday month. I turned 40 this year. AHHHHHH!
Okay, I'm getting up there. But I'm actually quite happy to be 40. I'm coming into my own, more or less. And I'm in a good place right now.

So, since it was my birthday month, I did spend more than I should have.
I hope this is not a trend though. LOL! Because, I'm supposed to be good this year. LOL!
I don't know if this program is working, or if I'm just spending as much as I normally do.
Oh Well!
So, I bought a new to me sewing machine for $400. It was a steal and I couldn't pass it up.
That's my big birthday gift to myself. And I did do some fabric shopping. I spent a total of $192.50 on fabric. I bought 9 fat quarters, a 1 gallon scrap bag, and 11 meters of yardage. I also purchased the Essential Triangle tool by Bonnie K. Hunter and the EZ dresden ruler.

So, my total spending for quilting stuff so far this year is .........$695.40
Ouch!! That does include a sewing machine though. Ughhhhh!
Okay, I need to get back on track. LOL!

  1. Let me start by wishing you a happy belated birthday. Obvious, you did enjoy it since you got a new-to-you sewing machine. YAY!! That's always cool! I don't know what your budget was but I think you are doing very well. Personally, I wouldn't count the sewing machine in the total. Unless, you have the intention of buying one every year? In my budget, it goes into another column called equipment. Sewing machine's doctors bills also go into that column. Anywho! Just saying.
I love your blocks and yes, they are perfect for RSC. Love the last picture. Do you know its name? Sampler quilts are a good resource for RSC blocks. I get a lot of inspiration from the 365 Challenge quilt. Enjoy! ;^)

  2. Happy Birthday! Who cares about a number, just keep living. The sewing machine is an appliance and doesn't count for the budget total. I love your blocks. The fabric combinations are so pretty.

  11. I will join the rest in wishing you a belated Happy Birthday! I think it's wonderful that you got a new seeing machine! The EPP block is pretty in all the purples, and I really like those sampler blocks. I've been wondering about gettting that Essential Triangle tool. Do you think it helps your piecing accuracy? That would be good for me!

  15. Happy Birthday Ariane - you deserve to treat yourself! At 40 you're just a babe in the woods. I love, love, love your blocks! May I steal them for my Civil War Quilt? Just the right size too. Millefiori is rather pretty and reminds me that I need to finish my EPP project. Have fun with the *new* machine!

  16. Have you seen this EPP stitching technique? https://thediyaddict.com/la-passacaglia/quilting-flat-back-stitch
I haven't tried it yet, but I've heard great things about it. Great sampler blocks - and I like all your different low volume fabrics for the backgrounds, too!

  18. Happy Birthday!

The fabrics you've selected for your EPP are wonderful. Would you ever consider switching to hand piecing to finish the quilt? (Though it would make a cheery wall hanging too!)
